I have done some disassembly on my 97K1100LT to farkle-up and in the process of getting to the throttle body, had to yard out the rubbery bit on the left-hand side between fairing and manifold. I'll see if I can include a picture in this post.

Anyway, I assumed it was no bigger than what I could see but in reality the thing is like pulling a tapeworm out of your ass, it just kept a'coming once I started a'pulling. I am unsure what goes above the bit (on the gas tank side) and what goes below the bit (major engine component side) now that I'm doing reassembly. There's a cutout for the fuel supply/return, that part I have figured out.

It may not matter but it seems like the thing is designed to sit on the engine or manifold, and keep all the wiring and tubes and other intestinal bits higher up off the hot stuff. But if you actually know what sits on the thin fingerlike part of this that goes way in the bike, and what if anything goes between it and the motor, maybe it'll keep me from catching on fire.

Here's a couple of pics:

Here it was installed before I took it out:

Thanks!

If you look on the bottom side of the frame rails(between them and the airbox) there should be a piece of flat plastic(to keep the hot air out of the wiring above).
At the rear edge of this plastic there is a lip that guides the "long finger" clear across to the other side.
There should also be another piece on the other (right) side to meet up with it. #5 in the image link below.
The part in your hand there fits around the #3 tb intake tube. There should also be another mating piece that mates to the bottom around the injector rail. #3 in image link below.
You have the fuel line notch figured out in part #2.

Here's a pic of all of the heat screening for the bike.

#5 mates up with #2 on the topside of the airbox.

All the stuff is designed to help get the hot air out the side vents instead of out the back.

Firefox is probably doing what it wasn't told not to Very Happy

In the settings, under Advanced Javascript, there is an option to disallow resizing of windows; Uncheck that and Robert is your female parent's male sibling.

I'd guess that IE and Chrome default to more conservative settings,
