I took a nice 140-mile ride yesterday on my '94 RS. At about the 90-mile mark, my bike started losing power. The RPM surged up and down as if the bike was running out of gas. I pulled to the side of the road and the motor idled just fine. When I blipped the throttle, everything seemed normal, too. I pulled back onto the road and the bike ran fine for the remainder of the ride.

I filled up with Mobil premium gas before the ride. Could the problem be bad gas? When I started losing power, I was facing a strong headwind and riding about 70 mph. Could the direction of air entering the intake have momentarily limited airflow?

My bike has 31K miles. The air filter and gas filter were last changed during the 24k mile service. I've owned this bike for several years. This is the first time I've had any issues.

Any idea what might have happened?

Your symptoms are quite similar to what happened last with my K75.
In FIVE years its never missed a beat. Then last thursday the motor cut just for a couple of seconds. It could have been almost anything.
Then on Friday she QUIT while comming home.. and I got stuck on the freeway in the middle of roadworks with 3ft wide emergency lane.

After a lot of fiddling I found the connector for the fuel pump had a dicky connection.

On Saturday I bought a pre-made four pin connector and replaced a section of the lead from the fuel tank and the connector.

It maybe worth taking a close look at yours.

Thanks for the feedback. Is the connector under the tank?

It's under the right side side panel, up toward the front. It has four wires going into it and coming out. I just repalced mine as well, but it turned out my problem was where that wire goes into the tank at the sender unit.

Pull the plug and spray some silicone or something simliar in there and check that it looks clean.

Another cause could be a clogged fuel filter if you haven't changed it in a few years.

Thanks. I'll inspect and clean the connector.

My bike has 31k miles. The fuel filter was replaced at 24k.
