The radio system in my 97 doesn't work, the p.o. gave up trying to fix it. The radio powers on ok but is there a way to test the speakers?

Are the tuning functions working? You may need the security code.

Are you sure the radio isn't code locked?

If it is, it will say "code" on the window when it's powered on.

You will have to enter the 4 digit unlock code before the speaker output will turn on.
If you don't have the code you will need to pull the radio and get the serial # and then have a dealer get you the code # with your serial #.

edit: If your bike is wired for rear trunk speakers, check the position of fader knob, could be that the fader pot is bad.

IF the dealer can't/won't get you the code, there's a company in the UK that can do it for 8 pounds or so.

Thanks for the info. I'm just re-assembling the front end and will check once I get the battery back in.

If you have the battery out, guaranteed it will be locked when you turn it on next.
That's how the anti-theft system works, remove the power and it's locked.

Found the security code in written down by the p.o. in the owners manual. The radio is now unlocked, I've tuned in a local station but no sound?

Is the red light on between the volume and seek switches on the handlebar? If so, you'll need to turn the volume up on the handle bar.

Pressing the ON/OFF knob toggles volume control between the volume knob on the radio and the volume switches on the handle bar. When the red light is on, you use the handle bar controls, when it's off, you use the radio controls.

I can switch from the handlebar controls to the radio controls. The red light on the handlebar works, and the seek button works but still no vol. I checked the wiring to the speakers and they're hooked up.

Huh? There are two K1100's - an RS, and an LT. You got some kind of custom bike there?

I think the 2007 whiz bang LT was called the LTE in the states, had painted hard cases and all kind of options didn't it?

LTSE or LTSEA if it had ABS. If I understand correctly, most, if not all of the special editions commemorated something... I don't know who would have that info.

Odd that it would be GT in Canada, but LT in the rest of the world...

There's a complete radio for sale here: http://k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8765

Might be easier/cheaper than fixing yours.
