Was just reading about the new Ducati Multistrada 1200, pretty awesome machine BTW! I noticed adds there about 1.99% finance for bikes! Is that for real in USA? What's the catch??? Why wouldn't you always have a new bike at that rate?

Typical bait and switch. Nobody qualifies for that rate. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

I dunno about Ducati, but most Japanese bike dealers are having problems getting loans approved at any rate except for those with exceptionally high credit ratings. I know BMW is an exception, there are likely a few others as well. It all depends on who they use for financing or if they do it themselves and how that internal group fared when the economy tanked. _________________ M N B

If you finance through a dealer on a normal deal then they are farming the financing out to a bank or possibly corporate financing. If they're farming it out to a bank then generally they charge you a percent or two more than they pay so they make money on both the bike and the financing.
If they're financing through a bank at 1.99% then there will be little room, if any, to negotiate on price.
If the financing is corporate then corporate has made the decision to eat a few bucks to sell more of certain models. Unless corporate has it's own finance arm (like HD) then it will once again be farmed out to be serviced by a bank or other financial institution. Since they end up taking a hit on that you have to have pretty good credit(be a lower credit risk) for the low rate since they want as a good a rate as they can get when they"sell" the loan to someone for servicing.
The point of the %1.99 rate is twofold:
1) Get you in the door.
2) Allow buyers with good credit to buy certain models in order to move those models. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Kawasaki currently has a low % rate but it is for 24 months. Go beyond 2 years to pay it back and the rate goes through the roof.
The number crunchers know exactly what they are doing with that routine- many customers think "sure I'll pay it off in 2 years" and end up going 3, 4, 5 or more years all the while paying through the nose. _________________ John & Cathy

No doubt this is where the credit crisis starts!! I thoughth the credit suppliers were supposed to have improved their ways....guess not.
Well at least that 200 billion will prop up the ailing Porsche and Ferrari companies.....
BTW that Ducati MS 1200 looks quite incredible. BMW will have to go back to the drawing board with the GSs to keep up!! _________________ K1100RS '97
