Just getting the RS back together after valve check, sealing up some leaks, etc...

Question- on injectors 3 & 4, I can't remember which electrical plug goes to which injector. At least at idle and running the throttle up a bit- it doesn't seem to matter if I switch the two!

How can I tell which wire goes to injector #3....to injector #4???

HELP!!!

The fuel injection is NOT timed sequential so it doesn't matter. The injectors all get the signal at the same time. Put them on where the wires fit the best.

My RS is in its best shape in years. Found 2 minor leaks in the front of the engine that were letting oil run back onto the headers. No wonder it was a bit stinky each time I parked it. Also found that the oil breather between the airbox and the TBs was disconnected- lots of dirty glop in that dark region behind/under the airbox.

Time to ride? Time to do the BIG trade-in? Cathy sez- whatever I want to do is good to go.....

My local Kaw dealer (sold us our daughter's 250R and my tractor- yeah we live in that kind of area ) has a new red '09 on the floor for $12500. NICE looking ride. If we can get anywhere near $4500 for a very well farkled '93 RS I will do the Concours.

The 2010 has LOTS of good features but I do NOT like linked brakes.

I just want to gas and ride- this off-season wrenching stinks.

So you just take all that time & money to rework pretty much most
of the bike & NOW you wanna sell? Are there still issues or have you lost confidence? Little of both maybe even?

Yes, there are better performing bikes out there. We all know that.

Forget the underpowered rides, WTH ? If you aren't stepping up or doing a 180 directionally on what type of MC,ing you want to do, don't do it.

The weather will clear, the snow will melt. Go riding, make a directive, take a stance, if the ride is still unappreciative of all your efforts, if you still don't feel the joy, then trade it or sell it & get something else. No one that has read your posts can ever say you did not try to love it.

Life is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy to short for unreturned affection.

I wasn't trying to insult you. It's a hard topic to share & is for you too I am certain.


Yes, technically, if you have done all that work and she's running sweet, NOW is the time to sell.
Most others would have cleaned it all up pretty and sent it down the road instead of face those issues. And THEN to take all that time & post it all! Bless you for sharing all that ! It is priceless information for those who choose to learn from it an apply same.
But in the end, it will still be the same bike, and it will not, cannot love you back. So, if after a deep sleep, you awake and still do not feel driven to ride it, sell it instead and get something that brings the joy back.
Age has nothing to do with it, you are as old as you feel.
To that respect the bike is a tool, and you should get the best tool you can, and one that fit's you. Otherwise you do not serve your craft and you will not find the elusive love you seek.

I figured you would not take offense, but I really did not want you to get the wrong idea.

You do stick with a bike a long time!

Me. Had an 81 Seca 750, black with the orange swoosh & sport fairing. It had shaft drive and a wicked quick motor, but a little tired up top say north of 90. So me and a shop buddy tore into it. Overbore, cam, re-jet, the works. Same mileage but lot's of ooomph and I was into that then.
Got divorced, kept the bike, that was about all & started over.
Started running with some BMW guys, club rides, camp outs ect. Found out that when going fast AND far I was hard pressed to keep up with those funny looking twins. Saw an R100RS at a rally. Met the guy, talked for awhile. He was selling it to build a side car rig. We communicated over the winter via snail mail & phone as that's all we had in 85. Bought the bike that spring.
It had 32,000 miles on it when I got it and, it's touched a wheel in every state in the lower 48 and I still have it now more than 100,000 miles since I got it. Oh, and the motor is stock except for the double plugging. Same clutch, same valves ect.
Few years ago I wanted to update a little bit. Hang at the dealer, blah blah this & blah blah that and $$ & more $. Every time I was there they would have one of them new bikes tore down to the frame and it would be that way till the factory tech could get in to see it. Plus, I just was not all that warm about the looks of the newer bikes.
One day long ago I saw the K1100RS special edition at the same dealer. Dark red, gold striping & the wheels & drive train too. I never forgot it.
So I remeber & start looking at K1100's. I take my time and was also looking at R1100's, but the K won by default as I got a deal I could resist.
Bought that red 94 K1100RS from a nicy guy in Blairsville GA sight unseen. Stopped to pick it up on my home from FL on our annual Eaqster trip.
I test rode it after handing him a cashiers check. It felt heavy and awkward. The tires were severly under inflated. Gas station stop fixed that. Everything else I read about I checked. We agreed I wanted it and I rode it home. TRIED to ride it home that is. The morning we left it was 48 degrees and raining. It rained hard & drizzeled all day & never warmed up. I plan B'd it in Indiana at my sisiter in laws. Went back two weeks later and picked it up. Had it home two weeks and I was totaled out by a young inatentive driver. The bike had just over 14,000 miles on it and I loved it.
I was only bruised up, thank you ATGATT! I was so enamored of all that torque and power, the low profile radials, the ABS, I had to have another. Found it 2 weeks later and took a bus ride to MN to buy it. I did not want to put my poor wife through yet another trip watching me ride and her in the van. It's a sweet 93 that thesecond owner only drove 2,000 miles in 8 years, BUT, he had a dealer take very good care of it. It's had some issues, leaky brakes & forks, but I fixed all that. The motor was well cared for and after I burned out all that crappy gas she ran pefect.
Yesterday, she saw the first 100 miles since November when I put her to bed. Oh she's been out a couple times and warmed up, just not out & turned loose. So after a safety check of any visual issues she started right up. I left it running, turned off the choke and got a cuppa coffee. Once she was warm, she got shut down & I looked over EVERYTHING very closely. No leaks, no weird smells, all is good. Finish coffee, suit up and go.
I feel alive again!
This morning, the fresh cardbord under the bike is all clean. High powered flashlight pointed all around the motor, tranny & drive line turn up no leaks. Oh she has road dirt on her & some oil weepage, but no wetness & no drips!
She is just under 40,000 miles and I got her with 27,000. Have not had time to travel enough, but I think she can pull Hungry Mother.

Hey, spring is coming- we had 50+ today here in northern NH. Mud season is here.

BTW, if I keep the RS for Cathy and me, I have this strong draw toward a Triumph Daytona as a 1-up bike.

Funny, I like the NEW Triumphs too, if I had just a sport bike ride, I'd lean to a Speed Triple. Not a japper, not a Duc, no no Moto Guzzi.

Although I feel late 20's physically, and I know I can outwork most of them, I fear in my heart, those reflexes just are not that age anymore.
For me, the fit is more street holligan and the Daytona has track time written all over it.

WOW!! Track day with your daughter?!?!?!

How cool is that! Guess? Just look at it! But, you know that.

That's what those bikes are built for. Precious few get to see where they belong. Purchased by those whom go to DQ on Saturday night, rip around town now and again and are subjected to more wheel spinning/wheel lifting and straight line dashes than the owners think they can bear.If only they knew how the bike might feel. If it could feel.

I lusted for a time to try it on the track. But my life took different paths and it was not to be. My rides are seen only by the road side scenery. Same for the not so good moves. The unseen tar snake in a hard left hander that skated my front wheel so sharply my left toe hit hard and was dragged back off the peg. The Metzler caught again and smooth throttle action coupled with steady nerve had me back on the line quick, but I never can forget it.

Hope you tell us about it, hope you can bring a pic or two as well.

Gee, this has gone on a bit. Wonder if the mods are going to through it into the Campfire.
