I meant what I said. That brick engine is a marvel of engineering. Its a 50lb hunk of pure art.
I mean they are using them in the Grimmel Scorpion, "Pocket"cars, etc.
Can you readily name an engine that can with regularity go well over 200,000 miles?
I'm no fan of many aspects of BMWs, but you have to give credit where it is due. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

I finished the season (just over 2 weeks ago!) with 49,8xx miles on the odo.
It's the bike I love to hate- or -hate to love- depending on whether all the planets & stars are aligned and it is running well OR I am in the garage taking the fairing off for the umpteenth time and cursing at my ancestors (yeah- my German heritage).
I am in denial about having to at least LOOK at the valve clearances this winter, PLUS the intake boot leaks, the swingarm bearings (Ted Porter, right Phil?), the clutch cable, the crappy seat.....
Not to mention brake fluid replace (maybe brake lines- 17 years old soon) brake pads, f&r tires, plugs (still running Champions after the clutch disaster!)
Damn, I DO need a lift table after all.......
BUT the engine will probably outlive the Earth's supply of petroleum _________________ John & Cathy

Hi, John,
Do you need help? I am retarded, er, retired, after all! Where you are, I might buy the bushings from Tom Cutter. He is in PA (tpcutter at aol dot com) and Ted is in California. Both seem to be excellent. I have met Tom, but not Ted. I have also bought a shock from Tom, and he was very helpful. _________________ Ride Safe,

Hi, Supercat1,
Voni has a K75S. Paul has a K75RTP, the last three digits of the serial number being 745 (I have 744). They also have a K75, which I sold them a few years ago, kept in Kansas. One of their family normally rides it (I don't remember if it's son or son-in-law). _________________ Ride Safe,

IIRC, Paul Glaves got his K75, "Old Smokey", up to something like 325k before some old lady wiped it out at an intersection or something.
I met a dude in LA last year who'd owned his K1100LT since new. 218k and he said the only major thing that had gone wrong was the head gasket. Pennies to maintain...... _________________ 93 LT (x2)

My old girl (the Mystic K that is, not Gill) is just clicking up to 189k and have had her from new, had no problems other that I had one of the UJ joints replaced at around 100ks which was showing minute amount of wear, but the so called UJ specialists who did, it fitted a STEERING COLUM joint to the shaft instead of a DRIVE joint, so it crapped out in under 12 months and cost me a new driveshaft, other that that its been a great bike with nothing more than routine maintenance, I love it dearly, Gill reckons sometimes more than her !!! _________________ Paul & Gill
