One of my photos is the cover of this month's BMW Owners News. I took this photo in May 2008 of my riding buddy while passing through the Grand Tetons in Wyoming.

I've only been a member of this board for a month and rounded off my miles to the nearest thousand. I didn't get a lot of miles in last month. However, did manage to ride 43,000 miles this year. _________________ Ken Krumm

Good photos are all about understanding the right light and timing. That same location wouldn't produce the same results just a few hours later. This photo was take at 9:00 AM when the sun was providing the best lighting and the least chance of wind.
This photo was taken with a Nikon at only 5 megapixels. Just about any modern digital camera today can take a photo like this photo. Its all about right place at the right time.
When I took these photos, the lake shore was covered with professional photographers waiting in the dark for the sun to rise over the mountains. The fall Aspen colors were at their peak and it was early morning. Again, a couple hours later, you have no shot.

On the subject of Winter Reflections, here's a couple of photos of Crater Lake in Oregon taken on the same ride through the Grand Tetons.
The snow around the lake was still deep in late May. Check out the snow depth in the Crater Lake parking lot. I had to climb this pile to get the shot of the lake.

These photos were all taken using a Nikon Coolpix digital camera that you can buy at any department store.
Computer technology once doubled every 18 months. The same is now true for camera technology. You can now buy 10 megapixel digital cameras for $100. It would have cost you five times that amount just a few years ago.
Again, it's more about timing and location, than camera. Any modern good quality digital will produce the same results. _________________ Ken Krumm

Wow. That is some camera that can take a picture of Crater Lake while in the Grand Tetons!
Just couldn't resist. _________________ Jethro Tull: Thick as a Brick!

Ken,
Just got my ON late last week. NICE cover. And it was reproduced on the talelight page too.
Thanks.
However between your photography and the story about Labrador, my right hand is getting itchy.

I thought it was a bit odd that they used the same photo for talelights and the cover. The assistant editor called me before this edition went to print and asked if I had a higher resolution of this photo. Apparently, 5 mp was not high enough and they were having a problem with resolution. She told me then that if they couldn't get it to work for the cover, it would be the talelight photo. Apparently, they were able to fix the resolution problem and then decided to leave it on the talelights.
A 5 mp photo can be enlarged to 14 x 20 with little to no resolution problems. I don't know why they were having a problem with an 8.5 x 11. It is working as a good excuse to upgrade to a new Nikon. _________________ Ken Krumm
