Since there's several of us looking at installing the Rostra 250-1223 electronic cruise control unit I thought I'd start a thread to collaborate.
I haven't purchased one yet but am seriously considering it. I downloaded a PDF of the installation manual earlier today and have been analyzing it. I think I've got the switches and wiring pretty closely figured out. Some of the switch settings might require some trial and error but it doesn't seem insurmountable.
While I was doing the analysis, I kept a summary Excel spreadsheet with the results of my preliminary analysis. It's not perfect at this point but I thnk it'll make for a good starting point. If any of you guys want a copy of that, please drop me a PM with your email address and I'll fire off a copy to you. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Got off my increasingly fat arse and had a look for places to mount the thing, looks like in the side of the fairing might be the best place, depending on how big it is of course. BTW the more I look at on this bike, the more dirt I can't find! I suspect Geoff has some sort of OCD issue which needs assistance. This thing just doesn't look like it's ever even got dirty to begin with. If he doesn't want to be disappointed he should come over here and either keep it clean for me or buy it back.....
Some photos of where dirt should be, first where I think the CC might go:-
Surely there's dirt around the coils:-
Nope, nothing.... has to be dirt under the seat?
Sheesh!!! The toolkit must have bits missing???
NOPE!
Geoff, GET HELP!!
Now as to the CC, it can go under the seat or in the fairing side, yet to see how big it is. _________________ K1100RS '97

The inside of the fairing looks like it needs some more buffing and polishing. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Ok guys, 24 hours later.....
Here is what we get for our money, and some measurements.
There is among other fittings, a small cable with a loop in the end, and a length of bead chain and connectors.
Here are the measurements.
Length 140mm. I took that from the outside of the yellow wiring loom plug.
Width 105mm
Depth 70mm.
The cable sheath length is 1100mm. I took that from the body of the unit to the end of the sheath.
The cable that sticks out of the end of the sheath is 60mm.
Edited to say. I hope this is some help.
Cheers.
Rich. _________________ 1993 K1100LTIC.

Robert - fortunately, you don't have to do anything with the great majority of those wires... _________________ Jim

Hey Trucker can you confirm those measurements? I don't think they make sense. Also how much does this unit cost? _________________ Jim

Don't forget that doesn't include the switch pad which is another $49.95 from there. Murphs kits has both for $205 all up.
http://www.murphskits.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=369&osCsid=acd428012ace729cc3c9bdb40dea31f8
If you're making your own key pad then maybe Murphs kits would still beat that price. askem!
As for the dimensions screw up Trucker, you're forgiven, you were probably using the same ruler you measure your ....well....you know what....

Woohoo, my unit turned up today. Might not get a chance to look at it till after xmas though unfortunately. The control unit isn't as big as I thought it would be though.
I'll head down to the bike lunchtime and see if it will fit in the fairing as suggested. _________________ K1100RS '97

Say drikko....
What make/model is the battery you have in that "new" bike of yours ?? I'm looking at a new battery this year and need one that will allow my Motronic to sit properly as does yours...
Thanks in advance...........// Ernie-NH _________________ AMA,, American Deaf Bikers

Ernie - not Drikko here - but looking at the picture - that's likely a stock BMW battery - it says "BMW" right on the side....
You can do better than the stock battery, though. Panasonics work just fine - as do the "Westco" branded Panasonic. The Optima also works very well, but you have to get the wire ends lined up just right...
I think more than a few of us here are using either Panasonic or Optima. They are both just a shade taller than the stock battery. I have a couple of pieces of epdm roofing glued to the bottom of the brain bracket to prevent an electrical
short. _________________ Jim
