I don't want to start looking like the used bike version of Billy Mays but this is on the BMWMOA Flea Market site:

Hmmm - no topcase, heated grips - or radio... I think he might be a bit high - the exhaust is discolored... _________________ Jim

Hi, All,
Jim is correct. This is a fine example of the "base" model K1100LT which BMW marketed in the USA in 1997. In 2005, I paid less than this one's asking price of $6500 for a '95 K1100LT with fewer miles and a radio, topcase, heated grips, painted bags and topcase, etc. As nice as this '97 may be, I wouldn't give $5000 for it, if I were in the market for a K1100LT. YMMV. _________________ Ride Safe,

If i remember correctly, this model was intended to clean out the parts and units due to the new k12's, these sold new for $9900 or close.

I bought mine (same year, color, but With heated grips) for 4200.
This one looks pretty clean though. I can't believe it has so few miles. It's not even broke in yet. Great Bike! _________________ 97 K1100LT |

I tried my darndest to buy this ride. The seller thinks it is the last one avail anywhere and was not receptive to my offer, (which was in line with reality). He has pulled the ad until spring. Too bad, then it will be 13 yrs old. I dont get it. I doubt buyers were knocking his door down.

You know it's a shame that MOA won't show the complete adds for non-members.
I wonder how many sales that are being lost because of that. _________________ Ride safe.

I totally agree, I bet the sellers wouldnt care one bit, if a non member had access to their products. It really makes little sense to limit the marketplace.

I was a member for over 20 years and when i sold the BMW i let membership lapse. I am just now renewing my interest in another BMW and dont see why a non member is precluded from the on line info. Yes the magazine was worth it, until the interest wained. Besides, I dont like how bmwna is thumbing their nose at their customers.

Im about to get real serious on this ride and if it is as nice as it appears in the photos he supplied me, with heated grips, factory topcase, new tires, cover, 1 year westco battery, 7500 miles, what is general opinion of the most I should pay. Where would I start to be on the losing side?

Impossible to say. A bike is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Regarding the mileage? Again, no promises. I had to do a spline lube, clutch, tires and rear brakes within the first month of owning my bike.
Seeing that I had no experience with BMWs and had only just began riding again that service and tires cost me well over 1500 bucks. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

I understand about value to buyer, but, im pretty sure there are some pretty savvy members here that have exposure to this kind of question and their input would be a big assist. Im comfortable and savvy enough about the bike, but removed from value and dont want to get in where I cant get out, either.

I bought my '93 K1100RS 3 years ago for $4000 with 30,000 miles but that doesn't equate very well with the bike you are looking at.
THE big unknown isn't what is an acceptible price to the seller but what hidden repairs might be needed. All the K1100 bikes are aging and especially rubber parts are drying out (that caused my clutch failure this summer). Other parts may be experiencing corrosion.
If you have the ability and the space to do your own work then any repairs aren't such a big $$$ hit.
I got sort-of lucky with my RS- it wasn't a money pit but it has needed some "beyond regular maintenance" work over the past 2 years.
Now that I reallly haven't answered any part of your question- I wish you luck if you become a K bike owner _________________ John & Cathy
