Ever since I bought my '95 K1100RS six years ago, I've always had trouble keeping the plastic side panels in place. Each one has three attach points: the rubber covered pins at the front and back, and a U-shaped plastic clamp near the center of each panel that clamps over a rubber cylinder on the frame.
Am I missing another attach point? Does anyone else have trouble keeping these things in place?
Thanks _________________ '95 K1100RS with only 47k miles |

Those are the three (and only) attachement points.
Mine seem to stay pretty firmly in place and I haven't had any problems with them. I lost one of the rubber tubes and had to cut one of the remaining ones in half, so now I have to make sure the hole engages on the rubber tube.
Maybe your plastics have stretched out a bit and aren't "grabbing" properly. _________________ Steve

one of the pins on the tail of the bike actually has come off of my bike. i need to glue it on.
beyond that i have noticed that my plastics don't like to stay on very well either. i guess just another example of excellent finish on these bikes like the dash panels? _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

Ken,
The rubber tubing on my front and rear attachment points were worn out when I bought my '93 RS 3 years ago. I found rubber tubing of the same inside and outside diameter in my local hardware store. No more problems. It works so much better with fresh rubber and not something more than a decade old.
I do find that re-installing them works best if I slide front clip on from the back after I "lubricate" the rear clip with some saliva (using a finger from behind to support the rear pin), then push the lower middle clip in to the center of the bike.
Good luck,

I had some black rubber 1/8" vac hose layoung around. Put it on the frint & back pin, never an issue.
Check your wiring hose routing ect under the panels. Nothing should be pushing on them from the inside. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

It was the wiring underneath pushing out against the side panel on the right side. I zip-tied them down more securely and that seems to have solved the problem. Thanks for the tip. _________________ '95 K1100RS with only 47k miles |
