Right in my own driveway. One moment you're maneuvering at low speed, next moment it's down. Just lost my focus. I bet more bikes end up on their side at under 2 mph than over. _________________ Jim

No - it's the other way around - he dropped the bike after sucking down the beer so it wouldn't go flat... _________________ Jim

After dropping the bike you should have finished off the 6 bottles. That way at least you wouldn't have cared about the bike.....
So- do we get to assess the damage next week at the HL concours d'elegance competition?
Seriously, that color match car wax (can't recall the brand and I am too lazy right now to go downstairs and look) really works well on any minor scratches.
Unless your mirror is hanging limp off the side. Wax "ain't" fixin' that. _________________ John & Cathy

Hey John,
Why don't you waddle downstairs and get the name of that fine product.
I'd like to check it out.

OK, OK.
This has been great on scratches. The exact color match does not seem to matter.
Your results may vary. _________________ John & Cathy

Jim,
Seriously, is the bike OK? I've done the full drop once and a "leaner" (up against the garage door opening).
Hope yours was a no damage event.

This was a slow right turn. I practice lock to lock turns feathering the clutch and brake and am not bad at it. I don't know hat happened. Just lost focus. I'm better to the left than to the right. Only damage was a couple of sheared rivets on a side case latch. Fixed. _________________ Jim

You are right most bikes go on the floor at low speed. It is harder to ride slow than fast and the most common cause of dropping a bike at low speed is the front brake when turning.
Seen a lot of bikes drop that way as I am an instructor. None of us are perfect we all drop bikes my own K1100RS went on the floor 14 years ago when I first got it the marks are still there just to remind me Pride comes before a fall. I look at them ever time I take it out just to remind myself. The marks hardly show but I know they are there

After dropping my bike more than once I finally learned to hold the front brake while dismounting. _________________ In the words of the stones

not gonna lie, it kinda makes me sick to see the rash i have on the sides of my bike from extreme low speed drops. thankfully they are just on the fairing and supposedly easy to patch up. gonna look into having the fairings and mirrors repainted over the winter. i'm just glad none of the metal body has any damage except the knee area on the tank, bunch of light scratches on the clear coat. _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

I dropped my LT a while ago, at a packed shopping centre
Came out to go home, got on the bike, put the side stand up, wanted something in the topbox, lent the bike over on the sidestand and over she went, I had forgotten that I had put the stand up.
Lucky for me I had the panniers on as she only went over till the pannier stopped it, broke the rivits in the pannier locks and the hinge though and OMG they are heavy when trying to get them upright again.

The one constant force that is always working on a motorcycle is gravity- that force WANTS to lay the bike over
The entire time we own a bike we are working against that force. When we ride balance and centrifugal forces help us. In the garage the center or side stand act as our substitute legs.
But ANY TIME we accidentally fail at our job of working against that force, gravity- that never ending constant- prevails.
Today's philosophy lesson _________________ John & Cathy

I think that with a motobrick that force has more of a pull that normal. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

The force must be from the "DARK SIDE"
