Okay, query time.
What's everone doing/done for exhaust replacement/repair when their header pipes are broke at the collector.
I'm cosidering a Remus system replacement, didn't know what other options may be out there.
Thanks. _________________ Ride safe.

I can't pimp the Remus enough, it's just badass in every way. Nice throaty growl, couple HP increase and lighter weight...whats not to like?
They are rare and usually expensive though.
I had my stock pipe welded, but only had the bottom pipe cracked, it wasn't even shorn through. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

When I had my K I was lucky enough to find a used one from a member here in great shape...paid around 225 for it.
I wouldn't even consider one new. It's just absurdly priced. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Hi, Scott,
Used ones come up fairly often on fleabay. They are generally quite inexpensive, but shipping is a bitch because they are one-piece. Good luck! _________________ Ride Safe,

Having done the shox [ RAM ], I've moved on to develop a replacement system that hopefully doesn't involve taking out a second mortgage!
I needed an underseat system developed for my Race Replica project and started the rounds of exhaust system manufacturers.
I found one [ VERY well known in BMW circles ] who was willing to work with me to develop a prototype.
Initially I based the system on an upswept version I made up for a K100 Streetfighter project - however that one was welded up.
The new system uses a 4 > 1 collector, but not as bulky [ ugly? ] as the Remus system and ending in an outlet that is compatible with readilly available end cans. That way if the silencer supplied ever needs replacing, you are not forced to buy another from the same manufacturer, but can use cheaper alternatives. The system is in Stainless steel. The downpipes are again seperate - as in the k100 series and there is NO collector box as with later 100's and 1100's. All three elements will be available as seperate items in the event of damage.
Aha, but you don't want an underseat system I hear you cry - well that's the idea of the 4 > 1 collector - you can fit the silencer in the normal position, or by using an "S" bend intermediate pipe - the upswept system.
So far the prototype syatem has been trialled using two versions of end can. Both cans fit and will allow normal panniers and so on to be fitted.
It's had a good work out on my K100 and in the next 2 weeks I'll be swapping it on to my K1100RS to trial it out on that.
I'll keep you posted.

I was going to comment on that too but I believe Phil is talking about the stocker.
There are no "inexpensive" Remus pipes. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

I found a web site earlier for Remus sales, they offered the header and the can for $900-$1000 depending the what can I wanted(sport or street, aluminum or titanium) with free shipping.
Just got an e-mail, they are available(6-8 week back order though) and do have the O2 sensor port.
Didn't think that was too out of line for brand new and all, considering that BMW wants like $1800 for a RECONDITIONED one if you can find one.
I'll most likely keep looking over the winter as I really only need 1 bike running anyway.
I was giving the '95 a visual this weekend when I was replacing the brake pads and noticed 2 of the header pipes cracked at the collector. They weren't that way this spring.
It may be possible to have them tig'd but I haven't determined how far the crack is around the pipe. _________________ Ride safe.

Hi, OTG,
Yes, you're right. I was talking about the stock pipe. I should have said that in my original post. I have no experience with a Remus exhaust, as I was lucky and neither of my K1100LT's cracked an exhaust header pipe. _________________ Ride Safe,

Here is another link to Remus for K bikes. The can comes in street and sport. Street is quiet. Sport is not. _________________ ====================================

thing that sucks is that you gotta have the remus header too. nice that the factory bags still work with it though. anyone know if it gets hotter and has potential for damaging the bags? _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

I don't think that Gui's had any troubles with his.
Not sure what can he has, sport or street, but it's not the carbon fiber one. _________________ Ride safe.

Absolutely no change in the bags. If anything the entire bike runs a little cooler.
I'm not sure if it's sport or street, but it's got a nice growl.
The PO of mine actually sold it because it was too loud for his pilon with the bags on.
I didn't think it was loud at all, but I thought the stocker sounds really wimpy. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

I was actually the one who sold it to OTG. I found that riding with the stock exhaust I could ride with no ear plugs. With the remus on my left ear was ringing after 10 minutes. _________________ Rich
