Yeah so been riding the big dog quite a bit lately. The other day turned it on to find the hi beam was on. The headlight switch wasn't even turned on! Turning on the switch allowed for the low beam filament to come on as well, switching to high beam turns off the low beam.

So had a quick look today. Couldn't see anything wrong at a glance. The problem doesn't seem to be with the bulb becausethe hi beam indicator stays on with the lamp disconnected.

Has anyone experience with this behaviour or a good idea on how the highbeam is wired? I assume there is a hot wire for the hi beam flasher somewhere.

For the time being I have switched the hi and lo beam wires so i have a low beam when i turn the bike on. I don't know whether its wise to have both filaments going when i switch on the hibeams though.

You will need to look at the hi/lo/flash switch, it might be the cause of your problems, try moving it very slightly and see if the light goes off.

on the topic of headlights, can someone post a picture of their headlight throw on the road? mine seems very bizarre -- on the left side it is all horizontal then on the right side it gets vertical. i'm thinking i may need to mess with that thingy to adjust the throw, but was curious what it should look like when i get to it. thanks!

For you it should be flat on the left side and rise from the center up to the right at about 30 degrees from horizontal.
Check the bulb is in right, if not it will throw the pattern off.

the Pattern on this bike is very defined. for left hand drive right side road you should have a sharp cut off from the center of the beam to the left then a flooding wide pattern going from center up and out to the right.. reverse this if you in right hand drive left side road.. i drive single lane roads at night and the beam pattern is very defined.. i do ride with the hi-beams most of the time because it is the only way to see down road .. plus i could care less about on-comming traffic. this is the bike only true downfall.. see now why people go for more watts in the bulb or upgrade to the HID .. it is also wise to add AUX lights to the stearing system. the fix headlight blows when traversing tight turns ....

okay, apparently it is doing just fine then. that just seems poorly thought out. it doesn't throw a long distance and doesn't seem to cover much ground in the throw it has.

Do a relay and then a 90/100 watt H4 bulb. You'll love it. Make sure it's aimed properly.
