Hey all,

Greetings and salutations with gloved hands from Malaysia. I'm Chris from Malaysia and a proud owner of a 1993 BMW K1100RS. It is my first BMW, having gone through a string of Honda's, Kawasaki's, a Yamaha, and even one Ducati 900SS; 11 bikes in the course of 20 years of riding.

My last bike was a Kawa ZZR1100 (a.k.a. ZX-11) which I sold in 1998, and the K is my first big bike in more than a decade. A brief history of the bike (I'm a writer by profession, so do forgive the long-windedness) if you're interested Smile

The bike was made in 1993, and imported to Malaysia by Auto Bavaria, the (then) local importers of BMW cars and bikes, and it was sold to HUGO BOSS in 1994 where it was the grand prize in a contest they organised. The winner used it for a while then sold it to a friend of mine who used it off and on for about 5 years, before parking it in his porch.

It lay there for EIGHT years without moving, from 2001 to 2009. In May this year, the owner finally decided that he was never going to ride it again and decided to sell it to me after my pestering him for at least 5 years. The good thing is he fixed up the bike first, changed all the rubbers, tyres, brake pads, and generally anything that could deteriorate after lying idle for almost a decade. His dogs had also chewed part of the fairing (first bike I've ever owned that came with teeth marks instead of scratches), which have been patched up along with a new coat of paint.

So anyway, I've had it now for about 4 months and apart from a few niggling issues (I shall seek the expertise of the group for this in the other sections) I am truly happy with this bike. It's easily the best bike I've owned, and have thus far put on at least 2000km since getting it. In fact I just got back yesterday from a ride to southern Thailand.

Here's a couple of shots of my bike to start things off Razz

Thanks for having me here Smile

Cheers!
Chris

Welcome Chris! The bike is a beauty!

Don't forget to see me or OTG for a K11OG sticker for that bike!

Cheers!

BTW, what's the WGE 371 for? A front license plate of sorts?

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! It's great to be here Smile

I will post more pictures soon for sure, as well as tap some of your knowledge about this wonderful K series bike.

WGE 371 is the license plate, the 'W' represents in which of the 14 states in Malaysia the bike was registered in; in this case Wilayah a.k.a. Kuala Lumpur. The 'GE' after that is just a running order.

Thanks for the link to get the K11OG stickers, I'll get on that right away!

Cheers!
Chris

Welcome!

Nice RS.

Whereabouts are you in Malaysia? I've been to Kota Bharu, KL and The Pherentian Islands a couple of times.

I live in Petaling Jaya, just on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, the nation's capital. My office is in KL though, actually mid-way between KL and PJ. You've been to Kota Bharu in Kelantan? What on earth for? Hahaha Razz

I guess it was just to catch a ferry at Kuala Besut to get to Perhentian island right? Love those islands off the east coast. The ride to get there is brilliant too, a little bit of highway to stretch the bike's legs, then it's all costal / trunk roads up north-east to get to the ferries. There's one particular stretch of coastal road to get there where you're almost riding on the beach, awesome Smile

Darn, I feel like a ride coming on this weekend. Hahaha Razz

Chris
