On my 2000 GMC truck my abs light came on, brakes worked fine. Dealer did their computer reout test and the module was bad. $450 for the module and extra for the pump. The two are bolted together within the frame rail under the driver door. T25 torx , rusted solid, crappy location to take apart without bending lines. $1600 at least. No go on my part. Did the internet seach and discovered plenty of people who rebuilt abs modules. For $150 they split the modules case and replace a circut board. Can that be done on the FAG unit ? Also I was informed that I should pull the ABS fuse under the hood. I was told if I didn't the pump would go into default mode and run continuosly. Would this happen on the K1100's ? The hydraulic brakes work fine with the fuse pulled, just no abs. Brake warning light and ABS light say lit, after 6 months with them glowing I just got used to the lights yesterday. Laughing

I think after spending some quality time with your K bike, you'll find it's nothing like your GMC pickup...

At the 2000 ohm setting on my meter, I get 295 for the rear (easy to get to) sensor.
Am I out of range?
Joe

295 Ohms seems too much away from 137ish. Check also for a short between cables & case of sensor.

Goodmorning, yeah the bike is nothing like the GMC.

I will pull tank later and check the front sensor resistance.

The "whole" reason for getting a second K bike was that this one is newer, and has ABS (Oh the safety of it all). Sold the wife though....

No...couldn't get enough for her, guess I'll have to keep her for the next 20.

You guys are gonna love this. Rode to work today, try to be a nice guy, glide out of the driveway so I won't wake the kids. Turn the bike on, and I get a Clunk/ Clunk and the ABS works!!!! Lights are off (had to pull the tape off.)

Stop bike, re-start, lights are alternating. Damn. Get to a hill, turn on bike when rolling, ABS works perfectly. Tried it like 4 times, if I power up the bike while rolling the ABS is clear. Anybody want to take a guess what I should check?

Thanks for following the thread, and all the help.

Joe

Sounds like something messed up in the electronics of the brain box to me.

Scott...that is not the answer I am looking for.

How about, "They all do that" or "its normal"....you know the normal stuff you hear from a car dealer.

But it's NOT normal for them to be that way.
Unless you want to do rolling starts from now on, and call it the NEW normal for your bike. Very Happy

That might have to work...all white 94's do a special ABS rolling activation test....I'm going to go check the manual to see if I can find it in there. Then I'll be all set....

Update...playing with it at work. Spinning the rear tire on power up (key on) does nothing, ABS comes on with fault. Jacked the front end up,and spinning the front tire while powering up, ABS "clunks" and lights are normal.

Obviously the front end is the problem. I will re-gap the sensor further out and tighter in to see if that does it. Barring that, maybe replacing the front sensor? Its gotta be the sensor right? There is not any other part that connects the front end to the ABS brain?

Did you try a hard rear brake stop to confirm your abs was working?

If the clunkclunk is there, and the lights go out - it should be working...

You DO NOT want my advice

- it just took me over 12 hours of testing and parts replacement to find out that I had left ONE bolt loose. Shocked

Joe,
That sounds like a bad rear sensor. 295 Ohms is a bit high. I'd measure the front sensor to compare but I'm guessing that your front sensor is the good one.

I tested the front sensor, and it comes in at 144...so maybe it is the rear sensor....When the lights worked properly, I did try an ABS rear brake stop...and the pedal did release, and the wheel seemed to lock (but it was only like 3 mph)

Thanks for the info.

Stupid me...maybe I should listen to Sugarhill.

When I tested the resistance of the rear abs sensor, I actually tested the rear speedometer sensor! (Dummy) Today when the new rear abs sensor came, I found it had a different plug....when I did check the resistance, (of the "old" sensor) I found it to be 144 ohms....same as the front. Anyway, I did change out the rear sensor ("new" sensor reads 145 ohms) and reset the abs and it still is not working.

So, anyone got any hints? Mick?

How did you wire up the sensor?

If the unit sets correctly when only spinning the front wheel, there must still be a problem with the rear circuit. It must be something internal to the Hydro unit, maybe a defective clutch or controller card. I'm out of ideas.
