Hi
Just returned to a K11LT to join my 11GS and found a very clean bike for a song. I have inherited a problem or two but that's part of the fun.
It has duff screen (buying taller screen and will probably leave), ABS fault (to be looked at soon), a bit of boiling over at the header (good info found here already) and a ropey tickover.
A couple of looks at the tickover balance showed that no3 was showing low vacuum with no difference with the adjuster. A bit more staring and it has a small hole in the injector to manifold rubber. No4 has large horizontal crack about to go. My easy check was to press hard down on the throttle body bank with hand and hey presto, sweet idle returns. simple as that! I will get on the phone to the folk "Sooth" and order this inexpensive bit and then spend an afternoon fitting them.
Well worth a check before you get too complicated...
Cheers

Simple, yet... simple
I tend to do things the most difficult way for some odd reason. And look for the most complex cause to any problem.
These nuggets of info are most helpful to guys like me

I will post a pic of me out cold with shock at the price of my GS gearbox rebuild!
Shetland is an island approx 80 miles NE off Scotland. It has a local dialect of Scottish/Norse descendancy which I can include if needed. I am not a Shetlander but the dialect sticks. I will try to introduce some for amusing effect.
Nict to be back on a K. It's only when you break one up that you realise how good they are, ahem!

Hi again
I have changed all 4 manifold rubbers that connect the throttle bodies to the head inserts. It wasn't too bad a job and the chap at Motorworks, UK said that they rarely sell them...
So if you are having probs with balancing the bodies, a small misfire at low revs, a rattly tickover, etc, etc, then its worth a check. The offending rubber had a 2 cm horizontal split in it which was obviously getting closed at any revs due to the negative intake pressure. The rest weren't far behind. The bike still did 50 IMP MPG and had good accelleration.
I dislodged a rubber pipe joint behind cyl 1 throttle body (front) which was a pain to get back together. Anyone know what this is for? I guess an air pipe for something...
Cheers

I think it is either the crankcase vent hose (connects to the air filter box at the right site (sitting on the bike) of the box, at the front)
Or the rake shaped pipe coming from the TB’s and going to the same spot on the air fillter box as the crankcase breather.
Both should be attached.
There are some other options, like petrol tank overflow…. |
