Anyone going to the event at Indianapolis this year? I'm giving it a good lookover...

I plan to go. I attended the inaugural event last year. I had a great time, except for the wet ride home. Rossi won the GP when the race was red-flagged after 20 laps due to heavy rain and strong wind complements of hurricane Ike. Hayden finished second. Watching these two battle it out in the rain made it all worthwhile.

Any recommendations on seating? I called the track today and they were pretty clear that no matter where you sit you're not going to see everything. They pretty much came out and asked how important it was to be covered in the event of rain and if it isn't that important, and because I've never been to the track, that general admission might be better because you can move around and sit in the different general admission sections on either side of the track.

I went last year and have reservations to go again this year. Unfortuatley, I dont have my tickets with me right now. If you are able to look at a map of the track: I am sitting with over head cover, around two hundred feet past the first left handed turn at the start line. The seats are great, looking straight forward into the "S" turn and has a big monitor to watch the rest of the race, thats set up in the infield.

Just ordered the tickets. The salesperson highly recommended a general admission ticket as this is the first time I've been to the track. GA allows you to move around the track to any general admission area. Not too bad at $75 for the weekend + $20 for a weekend parking pass...

Here's the best seats in the house. The front row of the penthouse in turn one. I just gave these seats up; E Penthouse, front Row (A) seats 5-6. I've attended all the F1 races and the past two MotoGP races. What you don't see in this photos is great visibility of the first five corners along with some of the back strength and full front straight. If your going to take the time to go to the race, don't go cheap an buy general admission. The B Penthouse is also very good. However, don't accept paddock penthouse or A penthouse. The first five corners are obscured.

Here's the view in the E stand below the Penthouse. Since this is an open-wheel racetrack, large fences that protect the fans from cars and parts block your view. This is good seats. It's much better above.

If you choose general admission, you will be looking through fences watching one or two corners. What you will learn about Indy is there is a lot of bad seats. All the Paddock are bad. You only see the pits and the front stretch. Higher is always better. Don't accept seats with single letters. A is low. The higher the letter, the better. Double letters are the best. Higher is always better. Ground level is not good. The J-stand is ok. However, its the last five corners before the front stretch.

I love Indy. They usually provide me with Speed Girls (See Avatar)

Next year at Indy should be good with 3 USA riders in the mix- who knows how close to the front- Spies, Hayden and Edwards

The first video is actually the 125cc start. The 125s and 250s won't be at Indy next year.

Here's the start of the actual MotoGP race. At the first corner on this video you can see the Ducati Island Stand (All in Red) that cost $125 a seat. While I have a Ducati, these seats are not very good. They provide a good view of the first five corners. However, you can't see the start, front stretch or the remainder of the track. Again, the 1st Corner Penthouse is best. Most of the passing and crashing occurs here.

On the parking issue, I recommend three day motorcycle parking in LOT 3P. Don't count on free parking inside the track. There is only about 300 spots in front of the museum. If you have a Ducati and a member of the Ducati Owners Group, you can park in the museum parking lot.

Lot 3P is along 16th Street in the IRL HQ parking lot. It's PAVED. The parking lots along Georgetown Road are dirt field for car parking. They are a mess when it rains. Total cost for 3 days parking in 3P is only $20.

Also, you can bring coolers into the track at Indy. It just has to fit in front of you (small cooler). So, you can bring your own food or eat at the track. The food prices really are not that bad at Indy. Brickyard burgers (1/3 pound) is $4. A oil can of Fosters (24 oz) is $6.

This photo will make a grown man cry. An St with a cover tipped over in 60 MPH winds during the 2008 Red Bull MOTOGP when IVAN came though, causing other bikes to go down like dominoes.

Actually the 250s won't be anywhere next year. The 250 2-strokes are history, being replaced by Moto2 which are 600cc 4-strokes.

On the issue of hotel rooms, I'm going to give you my secret. Hotel rooms in Indianapolis during a race weekend are out of sight. A Holiday Inn Express cost $150+ per night. Even a Motel 6 is over $100. This is your major cost

How about spending $214 for a full week. With tax, about $250. So, if you travel with another rider, that's only $125 each for lodging for a full week. By the way, the hotel is new, with free internet, cable, and full kitchens with refrigerators, etc.

My secret is Value Place Indianapolis, (317) 837-2950 (Phone) 6295 Gateway Boulevard Plainfield, IN 46168. Value Place is the fastest growing hotel chain in America. The only catch is with Value Place, you have to purchase a minimum of one week. HOWEVER, you don't have to stay a week. I usually arrive on Wednesday for the pit walk around on Thursday with the riders. It's great knowing after the race, you don't have to leave until Tuesday at no extra expense. They are all NEW.

With the money you're saving on the hotel room ($18 a night), you can buy the best seats at Indy.

I also use them for spending a week down on the Texas beaches for little to nothing in the winter months.
