Someone PM'd me about what route/ferry to take for getting to my cabin.

Here's my advice depending upon how you're getting there:

All ferries are $6.25 for a motorcycle and rider. The ticket booths accept cash and debit/credit cards.

If you're coming over the North Cascades Highway (probably the most scenic route) then head over Deception Pass on Whidbey Island and take the Port Townsend-Keystone ferry. Note that you will need to make reservations for this ferry or you may get stuck waiting an hour or two. Even if you don't have a reservation, if there is a line of cars you are allowed to go past the line of cars and go straight to the ticket booth. (Provided you're on a motorcycle.) Or just wait for a local to come by and follow their lead.

I'd also recommend Deception Pass and the Keystone ferry if you're coming down from the North.

If you're coming over The Cascades on Highway 2 (also a nice scenic ride) then the most convenient ferry to take is the Edmonds-Kingston ferry. You don't need reservations on this ferry. They run about every half hour to 45 minutes between 6am and 2am. Once again, if there's a line of cars, just cruise right by to the ticket booth. Then follow the instructions of the ferry workers to get to the special motorcycle lane so you can board first with the other motorcycles.

If you're coming over The Cascades on I-90 and have a little extra time then I'd recommend taking Hwy 16 across The Tacoma Narrows Bridge, head towards Belfair from Port Orchard and then pick up Hwy 101 North at Skokomish. This is a nice scenic ride along the banks of Hood Canal and how I often go to the cabin even though it takes longer.

When you reach Quilcene, take a right towards Chimacum. Right before Quilcene is a restaurant called The Olympic Timber House. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you stop in there for a quick cup of their chowder - it's some of the best around - seriously.

Then on your way back, take the Bainbridge Island-Seattle ferry. It will provide you with some awesome views of Seattle, Puget Sound, Mt Rainier and The Olympic Mountains. Reservations are not required on the Seattle-Bainbridge Island ferry and they run about every 45 minutes to an hour between 6am and 2am.

If you plan to take the ferry from Seattle to Bainbrdige Island then ignore the street signs to the ferry as those are for cars and motorcycles can sneak past the line (legally) if you head down Madison Street, take a left when you hit the waterfront and then the ferry entrance is about three blocks up on your right. If it's a busy time of day then there will be cones there to keep cars from using that entrance. If you're on a bike then it is OK to cruise right through those cones. In fact, most of the time there's a Washington State Patrol Trooper there who will wave you in.

If you end up having to wait a long time for the ferry in Seattle then there is an Ivar's Fish Bar located next to the ferry dock which has some great fish and chips and such.

If you are coming from the south then I recommend NOT riding up Hiwy 101 along the coast but coming up through Shelton on 101. 101 along the coast is set inland and is long and boring for the most part. Coming up Hood Canal from Shelton is a much nicer ride.

Whatever you do in Washington, I would strongly advise you not to exceed the speed limit by more than 9mph. The Washington State Patrol has laser and instant-on radar and they are not afraid to use them. It is also very hard to talk your way out of a ticket with them. Some of them have been known to even ticket other troopers (off-duty.)

If you have any other routing questions please post them in this thread as others may have the same question.

Finding the cabin: Our driveway can sneak up on you even if you're follwing the fire numbers and looking for 8395.

I made a sign which I will post on a tree about 12-15 feet past our dirve way because that tree is easiest to see from a distance.

Thanks Mr. Duck I think I can find my way now. I've got the Tiger pulled all apart getting her ready for the big trip. Valve job (shims), new plugs, carb sync, new steering head bearings, new chain and sprockets, new tires and an old rider.

See ya on the 31st.
