I took the K75 out for it's first "real ride" today. It used 2.348 gallons of gas in 135 miles between between Black Diamond, Mt. Rainier and the same gas station in Black Diamond on the way back. I had the cruise control on a lot of the way and never went faster than 64 (9 over 55) except when passing and only rode a few miles of hard twisties.

I don't know if it's the NGK iridium plugs or the synthetic oil or both but that's great mileage for me on a K75 considering the best I ever got on my K75RT was about 52.

This is a strange (in a good way) 87 K75 because it doesn't make clouds of smoke either.

My K75 gets 45-50 if I drive it with bags on usually not loaded. When my son drives it he gets 50+ with bags on and with it medium loaded. He drives slower and he weighs 80lbs less. Don't remember getting over 55mpg with it. I haven's seen any smoke from mine when its parked on the centerstand. I notice more gas smell from my k11 as well as more smoke. I get 40-50 on the k1100 depending on how I am driving it. Its very difficult to go a whole tank without speeding on the k11.

That's the other cool thing about this bike. Even though it's an 87 and has the old "leaky" piston rings it doesn't make smoke, even if left on the side stand for an hour. I am pleasantly surprised by that.

The beater I got my brother was an 87 and if left on the side stand for half an hour would make enough smoke to hide a tank squadron n battle.

sorry for dredging up an old post, but what should i expect for mpg on a k11rs? when i got my bike i swear i got 48mpg on the first fill up, but that could have been skewed by not clearing the trip odometer when i picked it up or not putting in a full tank, etc. now however i seem to be getting 40 to 43mpg. i have replaced the plugs and am on my third tank with techron. i can't say i don't have the tendency to really gun it on the i35 ramps (which i'm sure doesn't help my cause) and there are times where i miss the first to second shift and accidentally gun it in neutral. should i be getting or expecting better than low 40s?

we get between 40 and 45 2 up... thats up from 35... since i found 6th gear...

You will see varying MPG from 37 to 50 on the same model, same riding.
(meaning that all Ks across all years will report varying mileage)

I rode my bike for 2.5 years, 42,000 miles. I always got between 36-38mpg.

No matter the revs, no matter the roads, pilon, etc etc.

Your "mileage" may vary.

I've seen everything from 33mpg to 49mpg with an average of 39mpg over the last 2500 miles. Not a huge sample size, but at least another point of reference.

Hi, All,
I've gotten anywhere between 32 and 50 on my K75RT's. The lows were in Texas - hot, head (or side) wind, 80mph speed limit, so I was running indicated 85 to 90. The highs have been at high altitudes and also while visiting Drake at Hungry Dungee. The average speed on 101 up or down the Olympic Peninsula from Olympia to Drake's cabin was probably 45, which spells good mileage on a K75. I also got decent mileage from Yakima to Olympia going across route 12.

I normally got in the mid-40's with either K1100LT.

I get 50/52 mpg but I'm at sea level and and flat roads.
52 miles round trip everyday and I fill up every three days, it takes 3.2 gal. plus or minus 0.1 - 0.2 gal.
Average speed 80mph. but my spedo is not cal. so It might only 70mph.

Thats damm good...was it a downhill ride

I live at 5500ft ASL, my k75 gives me 20.4km/l.
This works out to 48mpg (US) and 57.6mpg(UK).
And I thought I was doing well for a 23 year old bike.

alrighty, as long as i'm in the ball park. i believe it does have synthetic oil currently (ams oil 10w30 if i remember correctly from the PO who put it in 3 days before my first look at the bike). and i plan to do the throttle body sync eventually i just haven't bought the tool yet.

Hi, Supercat1,
Check again on the oil. BMW does not specify 10w30 until the temperatures are very low - lower than I think in which you would want to ride. You should be running a 20w50, 15w50 or maybe, at the lowest, 10w40 or 15w40.
