When I was in college in West Chester, PA I read about a Saturday morning launch. My buddy and I decded to drive down and watch it. So we took Friday off, drove down, slept in the car and got up to see the launch and then drove home, Silly thing to do, but still glad that I got the experience. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

Cool and all, but I can't see a multi-million dollar launch when 10% of the country is out of work (and rising), healthcare costs are out of control, our mortality rates for cancer/diabetes/obesity is off the charts.......
.....and we are launching rockets?

I'm glad the Mrs has a job, but launching rockets with the problems our nation currently faces seems a bit fubared with the priority list, no? _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

I don't know about you, but I had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye! It was definitely not the casual experience. _________________ 1993 K1100LT/On going project

So then you are a big supporter of the large investment required for alternative energy in relation to the small immediate return... right? |

Lot's of stuff going up on those rockets is good stuff, sent up there to keep our daily routine just that, routine.
Communication satellites
Atmospheric & Weather monitoring equipment
National security equipment
NASA has been put on a short short lease by the admin and the current state of financial affairs. That's OK, needs to be monitored.
Sure, there's a lot of stuff that COULD be cut from the budget, and when the chips are down, and we have friends, family, neighbors out of work. Hungry, can't pay the bills, have cancer, dying of diseases still yet without a cure. Energy future resources dwindling and uncertain, you name it.
Times are tough, getting tougher, are we strong enough?
I for one hope & pray that as a country we'll still have the resources to retain & employ the people whom make so many of the things we take for granted still possible.
Damn hard to judge where & what we should spend money on to help insure what we have today, we'll have tomorrow.
Takes smarter people than I.
But, if you've ever had the opportunity to experience a launch, to feel the ground rumble, hear the deafening roar, and begin to grasp the science and technology involved in the end result, well, I dare say it may make you feel proud too. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Yes and no. What do you mean “large investment required for alternative energy"? I’m for the entrepreneur like Henry Ford. Produce/invent something green that suits my lifestyle efficiently and economically and I will be all over it. In the mean time, lets not have the Green Team trying to force feed me crap in the in the interim. _________________ 1993 K1100LT/On going project
