Mine quit leaking for a while also. Didn't think there was an oil fairy so I had to take a look. Seems that road chaff had mixed with the oil and plugged off the weep hole.

Well yesterday after the bike was sitting for several hours at my office- level ground, center stand, there was nearly no oil showing- problem, leak getting bigger?
Went home and within a few minutes it was 1/2 way between the dot and top. WTF??

I have noticed on my trip so far that in the mornings the level is lower than at my 1st fill up with the engine warm/hot.
Like your coolant, it will expand some when it warms up.
My oil level would go from halfway between the middle dot and the lower level cold to halfway or higher above the dot when hot.
So far I've got over 2k miles on this trip and have only added 1/2 quart oil.

my clutch started slipping a bit around 10,000 miles ago after a similar leak caused by ythe rear engine seal. I kept riding but was getting around 36 mpg instead of my previous 45 mpg. waiting comes with a price.

Just fix the derned thing already. Take a weekend or a couple of week nights and replace the seals. You can pull the entire back end as a unit, wheel and all. You'll be happier that way. OK, the photo's a little extreme but you can see the tranny-wheel assy waiting to go back on as a unit.
