I've read all of the bobbin posts and noticed that some readers have mentioned 12 identical nonsprung items while others have said 3 sprung plus 9 regular per side (my setup).
However, how do you explain the difference between the two maxbmw microfiche drawings?
Non ABS front brake (both bobbin types listed as part #3) drawing #340648
versus ABS front brake (only one unsprung bobbin part #3 listed) drawing #340649
http://maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/MainDiagrams.asp?VIN=0198507
Mine is a 94 K1100RS with ABS with both types of bobbins but according to the parts fiche they should all be identical.
What's up?

Who knows what's up?
Stick with the set up you have now - I think that's what most of us have.
Just move the sprung bobbins one hole one direction or the other. _________________ Jim

It's wrong. I have the BMW parts catalog and it shows 6(3 per side) rollers with snap rings on both diagrams. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Mine arrived from Moto bins, 2 complete sets, $48.00 to my door.
They are bright silver, not black like the stock set.
That's all the farther I got, just opened them & looked.
At only 34,000 miles, my rotors are a bit rattly over bumps and when the bike idels sometimes.
Figure I'll just do it some rainy weekend. Replace the pads too whie I'm at it. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

I finally got around to changing the rollers. Not too difficult. A couple of hours overall with the wheel left on the bike. I'll test it tomorrow to see if the rattle is gone. The motion now is restricted to side by side rather than circumferentially??? ( is that the right word??)
The only problem I had was removing the 6 spring bobbins. The grooves in the rotor and rotor carrier, were they there originally or were they worn by the springs? I have 80000km. As advised, I put the spring bobbins one hole behind the original locations (no grooves).
I used a screwdriver to wiggle the spring bobbins loose. Definite PITA. Any other recommended methods for future reference?

If you're doing it with the rotors off of the wheel then just remove them all at once. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Hi, Steve,
You've just discovered why we recommended you move the new spring bobbins one hole. The grooves were worn by the springs; they were not put there by BMW or the makers of the brake rotor/carrier.
I believe the reason the MotoBins bobbins are bright instead of black is they are aftermarket mfg. by Grimeca in Italy. They are steel instead of alumin(i)um. I have no doubt they will work. However, you have to replace the OEM ones because, being alumin(i)um, they wear before the steel of the carrier and/or rotor and are thus sacrificed. Now, all parts being steel, you "may" get good wear, but when it comes time to replace them again, you may have both worn bobbins AND worn rotors/carriers and may have to replace the rotors along with the bobbins. Please, keep us (me) informed with your experience with the MotoBins bobbins. _________________ Ride Safe,
