Well, having read lots of descriptions of the difficulty getting the two collets out of the forks (I'm working on my own) I decided to get the correct BMW tool for the job. Having run Ducatis for many years, I'm sort of used to going down this route as most tasks on a Duke are virtually impossible without the various special tools.
What a breeze!! Fit tool to stanchion, wind down the threaded rod and the collets just fall out the other end. To me, well worth the cost for the timesaving and making it a one-man job. It will be just as easy rebuilding the forks.
Cheers,
Ray. |

That's a fact-jack. Those things are #$@!#$#@!$.
Others here had their wife/sig. other do it. So after not getting too far with the circlips I emerged from the garage-basement and gave Cathy a chance at it- she had them both out pretty quickly. _________________ John & Cathy

I must have gotten lucky, mine popped right out. It seemed counter intuitive, if I tried to pry them up, they went down but if I pried down, they came up and out. Probably beginners luck.
I'm picturing an obscure tool on the BMW shop wall for installing clutch switches. _________________ Jim

Hey- as of today I have a newly installed clutch switch (EASY) and new monkey nuts (not quite as easy but not too bad).
Also I've been "foiled"
Now to fix the- in direct sun the tach needle gets stuck- problem. WTF, this never seems to end.......
The only good thing? It's paid for. _________________ John & Cathy
