| Quote: | ACCORDING to hot rumours out of Germany, BMW is in the final testing phase of its replacement for the iconic K1200LT.
The new bike is apparently a 1600cc six-cylinder motorcycle with the by-now-usual-for-the-range host of electronic rider aids including the firm's ESA electronic suspension adjustment technology and huge hard panniers as standard.
The bike is due to be revealed at the Paris motorcycle show later this year and will go on sale early in 2010. |

Yikes! Does that come with a standard pull behind motorhome?
Where is the limit for how big an engine does two wheels need? I'd like to think we're aproaching the point where you might as well drive a cage if you're going to have that many CC's under you.
Why not just focus on making the exisitng 1200-1300 cc's more powerful and fuel effecient? I know, "there is no replacement for displacement."
Except in my garage. _________________ Steve

In motorcycle touring field "Bigger is Better"??!!
After 15 days with an 1800cc 6 cylinder GoldWing I concluded that a 4 cylinder 1000cc bike is a more practical and more suitable for everyday use than a Gargantuan 2 liter bike.

Has anybody ridden a Boss Hoss yet?
I know it's far from a touring bike (350 cu in V- . I rode one a few years ago. It's about the most fun I've had with my pants on. Still get a smile thinking about it. If I could afford twenty bikes, I'd likely own one.

Hi, All,
How about the Triumph Rocket 3 (NOT to be confused with the BSA Rocket 3) - 3 cylinders, 2300cc, etc. _________________ Ride Safe,

It's still kid's stuff Phil.
I've looked one over before. Took me all afternoon to walk around the thing. Impressive, but you gotta admire the insanity of the Chevy 350 in a motorcycle frame. Over a thousand pounds sitting there. Only in America!!
Ugly? You bet! Fun? Ooh Yeah. |

Hi, Don,
Yeah, we have a Boss Hoss dealer in El Paso. I've seen them in the showroom and on the road. Thanks, but no.
Don't be surprised some day if you get a call from me to go have a beer, lunch, etc. Our best friends moved back to Canada a few years ago and, shortly after, he died. She was from Prince Albert originally and is now living in Saskatoon. I hope to be able to make it up there sometime to visit. _________________ Ride Safe,

Nevermind the engine size, it just looks.... Soulless. No life to it. Like it was designed by a committee in a senior citizens' home. _________________ 1993 K1100RS

Funny I feel the same about the current gen of LTs. I like the angular looks of that.
I have seen a full chrome "USA" version of the Rocket 3. Sick, but I wouldn't want to clean/polish it. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Hey Phil,
Don't you go teasing me now.
Keep me posted. Love to meet you and go for a beer-drinking contest.
Just gotta warn you; things are different up here.
Can you email me so I have your address?

Looks really heavy. I wonder if they have shaved pounds off the current LT? _________________ "Still can't find 6th gear" 94 K1100LT |

Had a try of a Rocket last year, apart from the enormous width of the thing which is quite intimidating, I found it well balanced and smooth. don't like the low seated driving position personally - too much like a Hog for me (sorry Guilherme!). Don't really see the point of the BM 1600, moving out of their traditional market a bit. Much better to focus on better fuel economy and more power from a smaller unit as skd suggests. _________________ Cheers, Steve H _______________________________________

I agree. The styling sucks, especially the slab-sided fairing. Yuck! _________________ 2000 R1100RT

Kymco, Ronco, Daewoo..... Hey the way that the Far East engine BMWs are selling and how very little of the new LT motor will be seen under the bodywork- they could be using "Chevy" Aveo engines in them and trust fund babies will still line up to write those checks.
It seems that BMW is going through quite an identity problem- this has been the subject of several contributors letters in the RA magazine. New models that disappear after a very short run (F800S, for instance) and defaulting to the across-the-frame-4 cyl. that everyone else has, for two examples. I expect the new LT to be a GoldWing clone.

What's never made sense to me is why BMW continued to call the across-the-frame-4 cyl. models K bikes. They should have used a new name for the series. _________________ 2000 R1100RT
