Of course, remember to allow for sickness, bad weather and mechanical problems. It seems your schedual will be so tight that a simple flat tire could ruin your entire trip.

Solo I can go long distances for obvious reasons. 2-up the longest trip Paula and I did was about 350 miles. It's just a lot of work. 2 people to worry about, heavier bike, etc. It's just exhausting on any of the 2 bikes.

Single up I can gogogo. I can go at whatever pace I want, stop whenever I want, can stretch, etc.

But as others said, if it isn't fun, why do it? Plus you are cutting your time so close that any minor thing will lead to catastrophic failure. (ie calling in sick on Monday)

I know, because I put a lot of thought on jetting down to HM this year. Based on Google it would be about an 11 hour ride, without stops, mostly superslab with tractor trailers, etc. That would mean leaving late Fri night, riding throughout the night and getting there Sat morning, or leaving very early Sat morning and getting there Sat night, only to eat, sleep and do it again on Sun to be back Sun night. Without taking days off it was just impossible. And I cannot take any days off because I am taking a day off a week for clinicals doing pap smears and other icky stuff and trying to have enough vacation time left in Dec for a 10 day visit to Brazil.

Meh, it's complicated.

A few years back we went with a couple other bikes to Gatlinburg Tenn from S/W Mich. About 600 miles (one way) on a 3 day labor day weekend. Left in the rain, rode all day in the rain. Camped out in the rain that night, rode around Gatlinburg in the rain the next day. Camped that night in the wet campground. Came home on Monday (600 miles) good weather bad traffic.
All in all the trip really sucked. We were, dangerously, dead tired when we got home around midnight Monday.

Take the extra time!
Larry

Don't know who is picking up the tab, but if my sister and brother-in-law (a very successful orthopedic surgeon) are pitching in $$$, the reception should be a beaut.

The last wedding they contributed to- their oldest son- had a huge reception at The Equinox in Manchester, Vt. LOTS of $$$$$$

Short answer: Don't do it, high risk of hurting yourself, even worse hurting some else, maybe a child.

Well, business before pleasure.

The trip is not happening. Too much time out of the office.

One of the "pleasures" of being a sole proprietor/single doc office is that when I am not there income stops but overhead costs do not.

Honestly I was really looking forward to the travel. Had to tell my sister that I won't be there- she understood.

But it is a no go. NUTZ.

Gotta' do an iron butt next year. Maybe I'll do an unofficial one this year on my own.
