I'm not planning on participating this year but I am hoping to go watch at least once. The track is .3 miles from me so if you attend please look me up or camp in my yard. _________________ Jim

Apparently not required:
| Quote: | * You must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid motorcycle license to participate in any track day at NHMS
* Full coverage one or two piece protective gear made of leathers or textile is okay. If you are using a two-piece suit, the top and bottom must zip together, although 360 zipper not required. See our article on protective gear more details.
* Full face helmet (Snell, DOT or equivalent approval) in good condition. If your helmet is more than five years old, it should be replaced. Helmets are stamped with a date of manufacture inside. If you cannot find a date of manufacture it may be because your helmet is very old!.If in doubt, replace it!
* Gauntlet type gloves are required.
* Over the ankle footwear, not including sneakers. We strongly recommend boots and motorcycle specific boots are preferred.
* If you are riding your bike to the track day, make sure to carry the basic tools you will need to prep your big for track riding. Examples include screwdrivers, painter’s tape (for taping glass and plastic), wrenches for removing mirrors, etc. See the section below on bike requirements for more information.

Yeah, but remember that I did amateur roadracing about 30 years ago- old Loudon course and Bridgehampton.
I know what it is like to slide on the pavement at higher speeds. Of course this isn't "racing" and the chances of going down are lessened quite a bit.
But this 54 y.o. body needs all the protection available. And from what I understand textile had this nasty habit of melting onto what is underneath (ME!) when it slides. OUCH
But maybe there are some leathers in my future.......... _________________ John & Cathy

Hi, John,
Be forewarned, leather shrinks badly. Back in '78, while living and working in Ireland, I purchased and wore a Harro leather suit. I brought it back to the USA with me when I returned, then took it with me when I went to Spain to live and work. In 1981 I returned to the USA. After a year or so, it had shrunk so much I could no longer get into it! It HAS to have shrunk; there can be no other reason, can there???

The older I get, the more my clothes seem to shrink. But lately I've resolved to try to turn that around. Maybe we could use a weight loss thread on which to commiserate. _________________ Jim
