Hello all,

My side stand kill switch is about dead, is there a by pass or something that anyone has either done or installed that would eliminate that switch, to be honest it's a pain in the ass, as I would love to be able to start the bike on the side stand.

Thanks in advance for any help

Just short it to the Motronic at the connector.

I did that and reiwred mine to a flashing LED in the dash on my Lt as a reminder notot ride off with it down. Then the switch got finciky on me and, though it didn't kill the bike since I'd shorted it, it kept making me kick the sidestand to get the switch to work so the LED would stop flashing. Simple fix - I just slid a peice of vaccum hose over the tang that triggers the switch - made it fatter and it's gets better contact now.

Follow the switch wire bundle up to about the right rear of gas tank - unplug the connector and splice the two wires together. Do a nice job - solder, crimped connector or last resort - gagging here - small wire nut.

I give the switch a squirt of Corrosion-X every spring - no problems.

My mechanic got me the loop that by passes the stand. It cost me about $20 and was just a quick plug in. If you want the part # I can gt it for you.

BMW part P/N 61-12-1-459-998, called a "contact ring".

What about twisting the wire together and using electrical tape?

JUST REMEMBER TO RAISE THE SIDESTAND BEFORE YOU START ROLLING

Yes, I was "shouting". Sorry about that. But>>>> if you forget, the first lefthand corner will be something that you will NEVER forget!!

Though I don't recommend it, it's not THAT bad if you leave the sidestand down. Fortunatley it retracts when it makes first contact. You'll have to readjust your turn line and you'll look like a dork but unless you're REALLY committing to a serious turn it's certainly survivable.

(SHRUGS)

The first thing I do is neuter the sidestand switch on every bike I've ever owned.

What a PITA. Rolling Eyes

When I roll off with it down, it always hits something and folds right up. Wink

The situation I was referring to was a mile after taking off- with the SS down. Went into a hard lefthander that was off-camber. Must have had just the right (wrong) angle between the pavement and the SS.

BAM! SS hit hard, the bike's rear end jumped sidewards and the SS retracted REALLY FAST. Scared the KRAP out of me- not to mention Cathy behind me.

I very rarely use the SS now that the switch is disabled.
