Hi fellow K11 riders. 3 months ago, I ordered a sticker/decal for the right side of my fairing because the existing one had some scratches on it from my awesome 0-mph drop while parking. Attempting to replace the old with the new, I screwed up and it went on very wrinkled, (not correctable). So a week ago, I attempted to order a new sticker (part #51142324 850) and learned that BMW just stopped making the part. My local BMW shop supposedly put an email out to every dealer in the US to get one from another dealer.. Nobody had one. I also can't find a single aftermarket sticker anywhere. Could it be true that this sticker simply no longer exists on planet Earth? I am finding that hard to believe. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Hi Julian,

welcome to K11OG!

Yes, it's quite possible the decal/sticker is no longer manufactured. I am surprised that none of the US dealers have one in stock. Maybe you could try the Canadian dealers - seems like there should be one lurking somewhere on the continent.

If you manage to find one, the best way to put it on is to mix up some dish washing soap and water, put some one the bike, some one the sticker, use a plastic squeegee or scraper (don't scratch the decal) to squeeze the air bubbles out after you have it placed where you want it - that's always worked for me.

Thanks Flying Brick!

Because I don't know how to post an image yet, here is a picture of the same bike that I have, on the web. You can clearly see the black decal at the bottom of the fairing.

Julian - I get a 404 on that link - try again - you should be able to hit the edit button, delete that link, and put the right one in.

There's a sticky for posting pix - I believe it's in the Pictures section.

BTW - there are lots of Flying Bricks here - that just has to do with the number of posts. Poster's names or handles are below the post.

Jim, All of the pics I find are the same way. Try copy/pasting the link into your browser instead of clicking on it. By the way, I just spoke with a local print shop.. It turns out they can print up a decal for me at a fraction of the cost of getting the OEM parts. I think I've found a work-around!

Good morning JulianS and welcome,

Before I was a nurse, I own and operated a sign shop for 10 years. 90% hand lettered but I used vinyl as well.

First, you said "Print shop" did you mean a vinyl sign shop?

When using vinyl, insist on vinyl used for vehicle lettering. It's dimensionally stable (won't shrink) and UV protected against fading.

Second, get you one of these. It's an application squeege. Most sign shops have lots of extra one's. A good shop will make sure you go home with one if they sell you the decal.

Third, read this. http://www.signmartcapecoral.com/vinyl_app.pdf

Before applying to the bike, spray the surface down with warm soapy water, covering the whole area. This will allow you to move the graphic into your preferred space and alignment. This will also help remove any air pockets under the graphic.

This is the most important step. Apply the graphic by sliding it onto the surface (you can also spray the back of the decal as well) and locate it to your liking. Press firmly starting from the center out to edges. Use a credit card or similar item to squeegee out the soapy water and air. (go easy) The key is to get all water out from under the graphic. Wait a period of time to allow adhesive to set. (15 minutes on average)

Peel back the application tape carefully, should the graphic start to lift push it back down, apply more pressure, then continue peeling back the tape.

For the above, use a household spray bottle. Fill with warm water (not hot) and add about 1cc of dish soap. Shake it up.

I hope that helps.

Ride with joy,
Gwen

I too had an order to Max BMW for the same decal for my 1996 RS, but I needed the actual letters, not the negative of the letters as shown. I recently heard from Max and they told me tough luck, no longer available - not even from Deutschland.

I need the black K1100RS for the right side of my '96 Black and Silver SE.

Did I understand that owrstritch is getting some made?

I'd take a left and right side reflective if the price is right.

Please let me know. Thanks.

Ok, I can help. If I understand what you need....

You need this decal. (left and right)

For this bike.

Is that correct?

If so, this is what I need to reproduce it.

I need the exact measured length and height of an orginal decal.
I need to know what color you want or if you want 3M reflective and what color of that.

I can't make these myself, but can get them made at a sign shop I know.

I would only ask that you pay for the dacals and actual shipping.

If the font (letter style) is rare or proprietary there may be an additional charge. This is often the result the sign shop having to buy the font or finding a font close enough then modifying it to achieve the goal.

I've heard back from my sign contact today.

Ok I need some help.

I need someone to take a HIGH RES, close up photo of the "K1100RS" decal we're talking about here.

Send it to me, UNCONDENCED ie: orginal pixel density, or link me to your photo hosting site where it is uploaded.

Jo, I can do that as well with this order. Do you want to use the same letter font?

And Jo, I also need exact measurments.

1. Measure the "K" along the straight line on the left side.
2. Measure the top of the decal from the "K" to the tip of the "S".

Once we get all the orders together, I'll get a price quote.

One more thing, while I'm at this, I'll take the same kind of photo of this decal in case someone wants to order one like that.

I'll price it two ways, one original size and one like the size on the black and silver K11.
