after seening ducks super mod page i think i will do the following and post pics

1 - install an access door to speed up the oil changing process. it is pain in the ares to remove the lower half of the faring just to change the oil.

any thoughts please

I'd also worry about affecting the structural integrity of the belly pan doing this. The hinge & lock points would bneed to be very secure, then they'll need to be functional in a very gritty environment.
Spend your time & money an a small handheld Blace & Decker electric screw driver. Mine as a 45 degree grio and stays charged a very very long time. I can drop that belly pan in about sixty seconds flat.
I keep a piece of old carpet lying around to thrown under the bike, I se the pan on that, turn the front wheel hard left, slide it right out.

Good idea and all and YES, I've thought about it too, buit I get stonewalled at the cost trouble pay off comparison.

Let us know if you come up with anything way cool though. Would LOVE to see it.

On the sidecar rig the lower mounts go through the belly pan, so originally I had holes in the pan so I could get to the oil drain and filter.

It held up well, but as Shognai said, oil gets everywhere, especially if the bike is not dead nuts level when draining the oil.

Last winter I cut some fairly big chunks out of the pan so I can remove it without removing any of the sidecar mounts, so far it hasn't created any problems.

I would bother building a trap door either. It would have ot be prety large and removing/reinstalling the belly pan really isn't that much work.

I owuld recommend getting some black nylon washers for the rear mounts - the expensive BMW rubber things just wear out....

everything listed so far has been considered .
i have access to aircraft parts and i am looking for a quick release locking
device that will hold up the hinges are not a problem standard stuff that might fall of during flight .

as for the oil drain i will fabricate a funnel that will direct the oil to the waste pan along with the filter while still allowing me access to all the screws .
