|
|
Hey guys, mother fortune is smiling down on me this week. While cruising Ebay, I came across this ad for a parts '93 K11RS in FL for sale that also had an Ohlins rear shock that could be sold seperately.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190292496352&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem
I emailed the seller and made arrangements to send him my stock shock (as a replacement) and for $450 I'm gettting the Ohlins.
The bike only had 25k on it, no idea how long the shock was on for, but I'm guessing a good bit less than that. It appears to be in great shape and hopefully shouldn't need rebuilding.
I told him I'd post a link here to his Ebay ad as someone here might be looking for a low mileage parts bike (sans the Ohlins! ) . Seems like a real nice guy and he has been very prompt about replying to my inquiries.
I'll report back after I get the shock and how it changes the ride. From all I've heard about Ohlins, my bike ought to be able to levitate and travel in time, I can't wait! _________________ Steve

A quick question, probably for Duck, below is the Ohlins I'm buying and it is currently mounted on a '93. Being aware that the Ohlins for the '93 is different than the later years, I was suprised to see that this looks like a later model one for the post '94's that has been simply flipped around to deal with the ABS1 location issue.
Any reason this would affect the performance or create any other issues?
Now a little concerned.... _________________ Steve

Looks funky to me. I actually had my Ohlins like that before I got y 94. (The one on my LT now came from my K100RS4Vand has both reservoirs detached.) I looked at trying to fit it up to the ABS I LT but I could not see how it would work without the top mount for the reservoir risking banging up into the frame above it. I have no clue how that guy got it to work. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Thanks Duck, I guess I'll find out, as I've committed to buying it.
Maybe the RS is a little different around that area? I'll see what happens, if not, I'm sure I could resell it for what I paid for it. _________________ Steve

I have an ohlins sticker left over (from a set I bought when I had my basket case Ebay find rebuilt). It's the clear/blue Ohlins logo that goes on the brass part of the shock and will make it look new again... let me know if you want it... and congrats |

Thanks Rydor, I might take you up on that.
It's funny, that's only problem I could see with flipping the shock around, the sticker wouldn't be visible! No biggie to me, but I guess if you paid the 1 grand for one new, you would want everyone to know it was an Ohlins!
I think the bright yellow coils give it away anyway. _________________ Steve

Nope, only certain color schemes comes with the highly-coveted, easy to clean, badass-looking and cooler-than-Bigfoot BFD.
The rest are that easily-oxidized, terrible to clean, always oil/gas stained silver.
Squint your eyes and picture Seans bike with a BFD and black wheels.
/slobber
Moot point now as he traded that motobrick in and got the poserbrick.
Which, incidentally, has a BFD as well. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Not all non-BFD's are silver. my FD (along with skdonlan and probably others) is an easy to clean gold finish. Don't quite know why some K1100 have this finish on the FD and wheels. But it is a smooth finish and appears to be durable.

That's correct, mine is the same scheme as yours (w/o the K1100RS sticker). I'm not real fond of the gold color actually, I like the silver the best, the gold looks a bit dated to me. But it does clean up pretty well and doesn't show the dirt.
Just one more oddity about the '93 model, like it was a proto-type.

Steve,
(guess we are doing a hijack here)
I like the finish but the color doesn't impress me either. Kind of boring.
But it "ain't" the ugly, hard to clean silver.
