Seasoned Greetings!
Sunshine and temps are dropping in Minnesota. RS is hibernating.

K100 LT... which I gave to my nephew when I purchased this k1100.
Last year he was riding the LT to work. gas line split and flash fire!
Somone following Justin stopped and hit the flames with a fire extinguisher.

last fall I was able to find a used fuel injection harness for it. Spliced it in and Justin purchased new fuel injectors from Beemer Boneyard.

However I had to head home. The Bike is in Texas.

Justin and his Dad finally got the bike running BUT its blowing white smoke. Right away we all figured Head gasket or head cracked... runs rough... throttle needs to be blipped to keep running.
This past week the compression was checked. 145pounds per cylinder.

questions: No head gasket needed right?
Is there another way to get coolant into the engine to be burned?
I know the colors of engine management... white is coolant, blue is oil, black is fuel enrichment... Is there a color for raw fuel that doesn't get burned?
I have been told that there is fuel dripping out of the exhaust! So 3 cylinders are firing and the 4th is spitting!

head scratchin... eh?

thanks!

White can mean coolent, is there a smell? When coolent burns it puts off a very strong odor, almost sweet, be definately a chemical smell. Check that first.

Are you sure it fuel dripping and not water? Steam is white and will come from cold engine, and often water will condense in the muffler and drip, of course it doesn't smell like just water because it has stuff from the muffler on it. Try taking a match to it and see if it burns.

thanks for the reply,
course I am too far away from the beemer! Keep thinking there is a need to head south.
I haven't been there when its running rough and blowing the white stuff. Yep.. figured its coolant.
So.. If the coolant is leaking thru the head gasket... will the compression still be in the 140pounds?
That's what is puzzling to me!

Thanks!

Try removing the coolant cap and running the engine, if its the head gasket or cracked block/head it will push gas out of the cooling system and it will smell like exhaust gas, also is there a loss of coolant? unless the engine was very hot from the fire or has frozen i doubt that is the problem.
When cold engines will produce what looks like white smoke, it is steam from the water vapour created when burning the fuel, this IS normal till the exhaust and engine warms up.
More likely to be a bad connection on the loom, air leak from a pipe burnt through or bad injector, unplug each injector in turn until there is little or no difference in the running then you will know which cylinder the problem is on.

Take a look at this thread.

Are they sure that's it not condensation dripping out of the exhaust?
Does, whatever it is, drip out of the exhaust after the bike has been ridden 20-30 miles? Or only at start up?

should restore be used as a prevenative maintenance..my k has over a hundred thousand miles and no noticable weak cyclinder turns over and starts fast. i would like to keep it that way.

I don't know.

I guess if the compression test numbers are good, then there's nothing to treat.

Adding the treatment to mine demonstrated a marked improvement as confirmed by the follow up test.
