With the purchase of my "new to me" '94 K1100RS, I have started a complete re-build...The previous owner it appears to have subscribed to the notion of "ride it hard and put it away wet".

I have been working from the front back...I figured that was as good a way as any. So far the forks have been re-built, the calipers re-built, the rotors re-bobbined? Steering head bearings have been replaced.I currently have the radiator out and am continuing to clean/fix my way back.

I was wondering if there is anything that I "must" do as long as I am this far apart and into it.

Supposedly the rear main seal was recently replaced, so I was going to wait on a spline lube, but given the condition of everything else, I may pull the tranny and do it anyway.

Bleed the brakes if you haven't already.

Bled them, then re-built the calipers, kinda backwards...they will get bled when the front end goes back together. Waiting for a parts shipment from Max BMW. Craig in parts was really nice to deal with.

My 1993 K1100rs set 6 years befor I got it.. I had to replace the whole fule system. Fuel Pump, Fule Filter, all Four Injectors plus 8 Rubber O-Rings, and clean out the fule rail and gas tank.
still haven't replaced the fuel sending unit so the gas gauge will work. One thing at a time.

Thanks for the advice....did the fuel pump and filter. Tank was pretty clean, but I vacuumed it out (i guess it has not had fuel in quite some time) Is there any way to check the injectors without pulling them? I figure as soon as I pull them, I will need to replace all the O rings. Should I just do that anyway?

If you've got new FI O-rings then there's no need to replace them if you pull the FIs.

Haven't gotten to the FI system yet. Any way to check the injectors, or do you pull them out and check the spray pattern while cranking the bike? Sounds messy...

I've never done it personally but I've heard others have.

Why not just fire up the bike and see if it starts. IF it starts, they're working. IF it doesn't start, pull the plugs and see which ones are wet and which aren't. That's how I diagnosed bed FIs on a K75.

Don't buy O-ringsfrom BMW - go to an injector shop where they're MUCH cheaper.

That little two letter word IF is quite large....won't be able for a while as tank is at the body shop (along with the rest of the fairings). I am going to leave them in for now.

I guess if I was at the point where you are, I would take apart the water pump and replace the rubber seals.

I'd also check over the state of the
- fuel lines themselves - you don't want any gas leaks at 40PSI
- state of all the crankcase breather lines
- state of the head-to-throttle body rubber mounts; they get a lot of heat

All will probably affect the running to some extent if they're having problems.
Also highly recommend a full throttle body sync too... can make it a totally different bike.

Thanks guys....I will check out the areas. FYI, I did find most of the vacuum hoses cracked, and am replacing. Fuel lines look good, but an ounce of prevention...

Project update....New steering head bearings are in. The Forks have been re-built. All the cables have been wiped down. Both hand controls have been totally stripped. The master cylinder has been re-built. The calipers re-built. The rotors re-bobbined. The radiator removed and flushed. The fuel injectors removed, cleaned and replaced. Most of the vacuum hoses have been replaced (still waiting on parts). The main wiring harness, all connectors have been separated, cleaned and coated with dielectric grease. Fuel pump replaced with new filter.

Bike is still in pieces...coming together. Parts are being re-finished...Looks terrible, for now.

Yeah, I like that pic also.

I still have not sat on the bike. It came off the truck and my son hopped on it. I had told my wife that I had to get the "nursery" ready as the new baby was coming home.

Chris helped remove the split collars from the forks when I took them apart.
