I found an easy way to replace the bushings. I started off with the remove one and replace it method and it was quite tedious. I then went around and removed all but the spring bushings. This gave me enough wiggle room to work the new ones in 1/2 at a time. I removed the spring rivet and as suggested moved them forward 1 hole. I set the rivet in and worked the spring in to the fixed part till it bottomed out, then worked the 2nd 1/2 into the rotor with minimal effort. Once I had replaced all 3 sprung bushings the remaining un-sprung went in with no effert at all. took about 10 minutes to replace the first one and once I figured out this trick it took about 30 minutes to finish up the one and do the other one completely. In other words 10 minutes to figure out 1 and 30 minutes to do the remaining 23. Not as bad as I thought when I started. I did notice that one side was really worn and the other were not bad at all, I assume that the last owner only did one side. I just bit the bullet and did both sides as a matched set. NO MORE NOISE FROM THE FRONT!!!!

Thanks for the tip, Reece, I just ordered the replacement parts and will be doing it before spring, although I have a set of Duck's replacement rotors to install also. Where did you buy your bushings? I looked at A&S for $4.58 per non sprung but Max had them for $3.05 . I'm sure Chicago BMW was cheaper but I wanted them during my lifetime.  _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT

I got them from the dealer. $99.00 for both sides. Aluminum as required. I only got the bushings and re-used the washers and spring clips(E-clips). I looked for replacement clips but the design is such that I was not comfertable with aftermarket. If the clip[ is a little loose just give it a slight squeeze to close it up some. The part numbers for the plain bushings (roll pins) is#34 11 2 310 086 need 18 ...and sprung (pully) is #34 11 2 310 995 need 6.

I got the big ranch discount on the 6 sprung bobbins from Phil Marvin. I checked A&S BMW and they wanted $4.50 a piece for the unsprung variety. Max BMW had them in stock for $3.05. Quite a savings when you need 18 of the little buggers. I'm waiting on their delivery with baited breath.  _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT

I wish I had taken the time to go through those routes. I ended up waiting for my local dealer for about a week and a half. And even after they said they would call when they arrived...I had to call them to find out the parts had been in for 3 days!!! I love COMPETENT people _________________ Thanx

Each rotor carrier pair has 9 regular roll pins(bobbins as some of us call them) and 3 "springy" ones which are the ones that provide some resistance to motion.
What you need to do it right is 18 of the 34112310086 roll pins (9 per side) and 6 of the "spingy" 34112310995 roll pins. (3 per side)
I take the wheel off and then take the carriers off and do them while watching TV.
IF you decide to take the cariers off of the wheel, be very careful as the heads of button head bolts can stip if you're not careful. I use anti-siexe when I put them back in so it won't be so hard the next time. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

This is strange as here in the UK, our K11s have 12 bobbins to each wheel...all identical.
They are a slip fit as opposed to being loose or tight, and are each secured with a wavy washer and a C clip. Each rotor therefore has a fair amount of free play during normal operation, and the wavy washers are there just to stop the rotors rattling.
A wheel kit costs around $45 - $50. I wonder why they're different stateside? _________________

According to the parts fiche, they are not different. The bike should have come from the factory with 9 plain "bobbins" and 3 spring "bobbins" per side, each being secured by a washer and a "C" clip. If your bike has 12 plain bobbins per side, it's either a legacy from a P.O. (Previous Owner), an incompetent mechanic ore a mistake from the factory. Here in the USA, at retail prices, a complete set (18 plain bobbins, 6 spring bobbins, 24 washers and 24 "C" clips) is $117.72 according to MaxBMW online parts catalogue.

Im in the UK too and both my K's had wavy washers on all the bobbins, so might be different spec in the Uk to the US

That's twelve 'floating' bobbins - not solid ones. Hardly likely that thousands of bikes have suffered at the hands of an incompetent mechanic .
I was just curious as to why Amarican spec bikes have only three 'loose' bobbins per wheel when ALL European bikes have twelve.
The bikes were marketed as having 'Floating brake discs', so how can three give any degree of 'float' when the others are rigid? _________________

I don't know what is right or not, But at, www.bikebandit.com you have a choice with or without ABS. The ABS order sheet has roll pins, Without has roll pins with springs. I have a 1993 K1100RS with ABS so I odered what I thought was right When I take mine apart I will give an update.
Just looking at them I can't tell if three have springs or not.
Not gonna take mine apart until I order the seals for the forks aswell.
yeah there leaking cause of pitting in the stantions I will have to wet sand them better this time.." just used stainlesswool the firsttime" Did Ok until my son and I max'ed the bike out and went down a grass/bumpy road. bin leaking since.
I'm 275 lbs my son is 130 so there you have it ..to much weight.

Hi, All,
I have ordered from Motobins and have nothing but good to say for their service. (Ordered parts on Saturday; they arrived the next Thursday. I am in El Paso, Texas, USA and Motobins is in the United Kingdom!) That said, we are now talking about the Grimeca steel brake bobbins. No argument - they work. However, the BMW parts are aluminum (aluminium to you who speak the Queen's English). They will wear before the brake disc carrier. Not so with the steel ones. I would rather replace the bobbins than have to replace the worn-out disc brake carriers and, since BMW doesn't sell them separately, the discs as well.
That's my OPINION (NOT fact).

Just replaced mine and they were so worn that the springs were gone but you could tell they once had them.
I notice the inside hole difference after i got them out
for now I will use all the same rollpins Its alot better than I had but i will buy the spring ones soon. as always thanx  _________________ In the words of the stones
