Got my bike two years ago for free. Very Happy . sat in a condo parkinglot for 5 to6 years without being running. the guy had it serviced and while going home it went dead. ticked him off but good so he parked it six years later gave it to me. I replaced the fule pump, injectors, filter and the cause of the oringinal problem the ign switch, and bought a 120.00 bmw batt. replaced the fork seals and dust covers. while waiting for parts and doing the repairs.
I did not take care of the batt and it lost a cell, so i replaced it with a wal-mart batt a bit smaller and post on the wrong side but the wires reached and 50.00 bucks it was running. did all the work myself evrything works great but the abs lights flash when riding hit the abs button and they stop flashing but the hazzard light and the abs light stays on and after 10 miles or so both the hazzard and the abs lights flash at the same time and when i press the abs button they stop flashing but still stay lit. any clue do you think I might be the batt???

any help would be great will do the work myself can't afford to let the dealer do it..
thanx in advance endoman100

Endoman,

First off you have an interesting "name" when it come to bikes.

Others with lots more experience will give their input but from what I know the ABS on K1100s is pretty sensitive to battery voltage.

Good luck,
John

Battery is a posssible culprit. ABS control units are sensitive to low voltage.

The switch just makes the light go out for a while.

When the lights are flashing it means you don't have ABS - but your brakes will work like normal brakes so aside fomr nor having ABS it is not a safety issue.

There's some links here on ABS troubleshooting:

Endo,
We have lots of info here: http://k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2110
I would suggest you determine what fault code you have before you start flailing. Post the last 7 digits of your VIN so we know if you have ABS-I or ABS-II.

And I thought your name came from going over the bars......... Shocked

My K1100RS has ABS I also. Few weeks after I bought it the flashing ABS light show started on it. Until I could get it looked at I did the electrical tape cover over the lights.

Then one day I just looked at the instruments at an angle and noticed that the lights were no longer flashing. Untaped the lights and haven't had a problem since- the ABS fixed itself. Goofy, huh?

Glad to hear your ABS problem is resolved.

I clean my ABS wheel sensors by gently passing a damp cloth across the optic lens. I once had an ABS problem (flashing light) and removing the accummulated dirt solved it.

WTF Question Exclamation Shocked

I can assure you that there is no optic sensor, it's all about magnetic induction and coil. The pits and groves on the abs rotor gives the rotation speed signal do ABS unit, by changing magnetic induction of ABS sensor, which in fact is an electric coil. So by removing dirt you just cleaned the dirt that blocked magnetic field.

Best regards

To me it sounds like low voltage have you tried riding abot 5 miles switch off engine and restart 15 seconds later. I do this as my battery is 13 years old it starts the bike ok but the ABS will not kick in due to low voltage so in the winter I have to restart after a few miles if I want the ABS active
