Think its either the output shaft to crank gears or the clutch assembly but hey its going to stay like it, just turn the music up a bit more till she is warm.

This does it cold or warm, as he rode the bike to where i was (it took 45min to get to me) so the bike was warm. As you have to bring the rpm`s above 2,000 to start to hear it go away , but then again the rest of the bike gets louder so it could just be muffled by other sounds. He was suposed to have it at a shop by now , but havn`t heard from him yet , so we`ll see. I know if i do buy it it`ll have to be cheap enough to warrent having to take the engine out to investagate what this noise is. I love a good challenge & not afraid to get down & dirty on any motorcycle engine. |

If you find what it is, please let me know.
In threads from several months ago, I asked about this low-speed knock. Ithoght it was wrist pin or rod. I put an oil pressure gauge on it. It doesn't look like a bearing. Since then, I've put on 13k miles; quite a bit of it at very high speeds.
Nothing has broken - still makes the noise.
Never above 2k rpm. _________________ 1973 CB350F / 1977 R100/7 / 1991 DR650S / 1995 K1100RS

Mine does still make noise when its warm but just not as loud, it is common on the K's, my last RS did it just not as loud.
It could even be rough running causing the crank to be speeding up & slowing down until the revs get past 2000.
When was the last service, plugs & throttle body sync???
Im going to have a look at mine soon, she is due a service and think most of the noise is because of rough running, the engine is not as smooth as the RS was.

My 1997 K1100LT is also noisy below 1000 rpm idle. It was that way when I purchased it 6 yrs. ago with 23,000 miles and still that way with 80,000. For me, doing a throttle syc helped smooth out the engine at idle and reduce the noise. |
Whoa whoa hang on there a sec.

Don't know if it helps but my K11 runned a lot smoother and less knocking after renowating rubber tubes at inlet and adjusting the throttles se:

Hi guys,
I've got the exact same problem. With a '94 K1100LT, I bought it a few weeks ago, rode about 1500 miles, it was sweet! Smooth and quiet. Then the other day it started this knocking.
And just as confish86 has described, it happens when the engine is cold or hot, whether the clutch is in or out, but seems to go away when riding above 2000 rpm or so.
To me, the knock also sounds louder when the engine is hot.
Also, I have noticed a little backfiring every now and again, at least I think it is, very quietly though and only around 4 times or so a day (I ride about 100 miles per day).
On another forum I was told this:
| Quote: | | Possible injector knock???? They have been known to make noise at idle. |
I asked for more information but have not received a reply. Any help or tips appreciated
Thanks!

read some years ago that the injetors are the same as in tha car 520 / 320 with M50 engine.
Some help could be to fill some injector cleaning in the tank.
Others are to use ultrasound bath or what it's called in english(-us) |

Welcome MadStu,
Got any pics of your steed.
How many miles, is it sounding like it's coming from the front or back, or either side?
Possibly dry/broken alternator rubbers, but they can tend to sound like a bag of rocks though. _________________ Ride safe.

Or a good MP3 player.
After riding Johnny's new RS last month I can appreciate why all you RS riders out there wear them ear plugs!
I guess I have been spoiled with bikes with a decent wind screen. _________________ Ride safe.

I've not got any pics yet, it's in Mystic red though and has got a big cube on the back for carrying blood in.
It's done about 47,000 miles and I've tended to think the knock is coming from the left side of the engine, but I'll let you know later after I run it a bit.
Doesn't really sound like a bag of rocks. Might be best if I video it running and stick it on YouTube or something, so you can hear it.

If your ever up around the medway area let me know and you can listen to mine, will be the same noise, sounds worse on my LT due to the fairing directing it back.

Ah, cool.
I keep reading that I shouldn't worry about it, lol, but I'm getting some stick from my colleagues about it sounding like a tractor _________________ 1994 K1100LT |

OK, I found the answer for me anyway - There was a blanking cap missing. Visit here for details: http://redsoket.com/index.php?showtopic=60&st=45
Maybe it'll help the original thread starter.

Yes, and what a wise purchase he made - a great bike, and unlimited post sales supoort from yours truly.
Currently negotiating on a 1984 K100 RS - a very early one with good provenance.
When I get bored with the R1150 RT, I'll definitely buy another K11LT - just need to figure out how to convert the g/box for an overdrive 5th
