Another thing. I assume you'll be crimping on the piggybacks. Strip about 1/4" of wire then fold the strands back over the insulation before crimping it. That way the insulation is crimped and you won't have the siutation where the wires eventually break. (Unless the piggybacks have two things to crimp - one for the wire and one for the insulation.)

Thanks Duck, appreciate the useful suggestions, the rest of you are just suffering from jealousy.

I'll try to post a video when they're done.

Very nice Steve, now picture both sides of your brake light ablaze with 16, yes count them, 16 powerful LED's contained nicely inside of the OEM brake light housing. Very Happy Buyers remorse. Sheesh. Rolling Eyes

So Scott, I'm curious how you'd get the lens assembly apart to get in there, seemed to be "glued" together, but I really didn't spend any time investigating it.

How do the hyper lights connect? I've already got the Lite-blazer piggybacked on the OEM connections.

I have half a mind to add those as well, it's really be a fireworks show then! Would there be any issues with overload on the brake light circuit?

Next up will be adding some driving lights upfront, once I get the CAD from Shogs on those cool mirror mount brackets.

Hyperlites go in the open sides of the lens. They have a special little mounting brakcet the double-sided tapes inside the lens housing. I never trusted that so I always drilled a little hole and used little bolts to make sure they'd stay in place for many moons.

I had the older style ones on two occasions. (Salvaged from ym parts bikes.) They were the older ones and weren't that great if oyu ask me. Supposedly the new ones are birghter according to (JIM?)

They just piggyback like the Lite Blazer.

There is no threat of overload. LEDs only draw negligable current. The deal with filament bulbs is that much of the electtricity(energy) is used up in the heat generated by the filament. LEDs are massively more efficient and generate ZERO heat so very little current is required. You'd have to add a zillion LEDs to overload the circuitry on the bike.

They connect with more piggybacks - you can end up with a real mess in there once you add enough lights (DAMHIK). Eventually, it's easier to run a pigtail off the brake light and run that to your added lighting.

The Hyperlites don't weigh much - the double stick tape works just fine - had mine in there for tens of thousands of miles - when I changed the lens I had to move the Hyperlites over - they were a pain to get loose. Once you put them in they won't budge. It's pretty easy to pop the lens off. Give it a good cleaning while you have it off - it's open at the bottom and gets dusty up in there.

Steve, I don't know what you mean about getting in to the lens, when you undo the 2 bolts in the trunk the lens falls off. You should be able to get at all the wiring there.

I think he already has if he's got the Blazer hooked up. I think he was thinking that the Hyperlites went in the center lens somehow - which would be a PITA - if possible at all.

I get it now, Steve, when you undo the the two screws that hold the tail light assembly in and it falls in your lap, you can look at the wiring inside the lens. Not the turn signals but the actual brake light. On each side of the brake light as you look in the back of it is wasted space. That is where the LEDs fit, inside the OEM lens. If that's not clear I can take pics. But no video, I'm just a poor Teamster And can't afford a video camera.

I'll take a closer look, I didn't realize that part was open, thought it was all sealed up.

Any recomendations on a good site to buy them from? Whoops, nevermind, I see the link back in the first posts, thanks.

We have been talking about flashing brake lights, LED's and HID over at Gabfesters (redsoket).

I sourced a set of triple flash LEDs for little cost (they were shipped form a US Ebayer). The Front was made from aluminium channel with holes drilled for the LEDs.......

Then Rob nicked them last Sunday Crying or Very sad
