|
|
I am looking at the following thermo switch to kick the fan in earlier:
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=flx-31147
I emailed the manufacturer to find out what the probe dimensions are. Here is their response:
| Quote: | The probe tip itself is 3.25" long and .218"(7/32nd)diameter. The
length of the lead is aprox.18.00". The adjustmeny range is 160-240*
|
Think that'll work?
The probe is a little long but I'd just put it so that it's middle is covered by the radiator core. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I went with the Hayden #3647 from Pep Boys. The probe is 2.12" long and 3/16" in diameter. You can use a foam pad to take up ome of the extra length. Did your kit come with one? _________________ Larry

Do you have a rad handy to measure? Seems like it is only about 1 1/2" thick, maybe 2". That would leave about an inch and a half sticking out which would probably be alright depending on how much of the probe is used for actual measurements. Instructions give no clue on how far it needs to be in. Easiest install directions I've seen in awhile.

I use temp probes a lot for controling heaters and chillers and all the manufacturer reps tell me that the sensor that does the reading is in the first inch at the tip of the probe. _________________ Rich

I haven't ordered yet so I don't know .
Have you installed yours yet? I'll spend an extra $5 for something someone has already tried and got working. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I checked out the two reviews of the Hayden on Amazon and found this:
| Quote: | | Worked great, description matches what the unit does. Easy to install and replaced a faulty FlexLite unit. The only thing missing is the ability to have a manual switch to turn the unit on. I got around this by installing a second relay that bypasses this automatic unit. |
Larry, take lots of pics, PLEASE!!!
I assume you're putting the probe in near the inlet hose entry, right? If I'm not mistaken that's the one that comes oof of the head. (I assume that because that's where the Moronic senses the temp.) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Sorry folks,
No pictures this weekend, the ash and smoke from the fires made it impossible to work in the garage. Maybe tommorrow. _________________ Larry
