Shogs needs a set of mirror mount light brackets or a light bar for her K1100RS. We got a set of Piaa 910s that we want to put a set of HID's in and we just need a way to mount them to the bike.

Anybody?

Or if anybody has a set I can borrow to make a pattern out of that would be cool too. Shogs will bake you a cheesecake or something in return for your generosity. Twisted Evil

I think that's the one JO has - didn't they quit making them for the K11? I don't see them anywhere on the website...

$200+ for a bar with holes drilled in it? I'd just as soon go buy a flat bar at the hardware store, bend it myself (I have no machine shop tools, but this wouldn't be all that hard) and drill the holes and paint it. Would cost me under $20 for parts...

Steve, I think those mirror mounts are a one-off. I got them from crazy JO. Somebody used to make them for LT/RTs but I don't think anybody ever made them for the RS, I don't think it would be too hard to make your own.

I had to make two slightly longer bolts out of threaded rod to mount my mirrors when I installed the brackets. I also put some 1.8" rubber under them to protect the fairing. One nice side benefit is that they push the mirrors out another 1/3" inch or so.

OK time ti bone up on my fabricating skills.

Wait a minute, I never had any. Time to find my fabricating skills.

I guess I will pull the mirrors off and start seeing what I need to do to get the results we want.

Thanks for the responses.

Steve why so hung up on a mirror mount when a fork/caliper mount would be easier and perhaps even safer? (as far as light patterns go)

It is my opinion that the amount of light from the 910's will work better up high and illuminate over rises better if installed a little hight. Also the size of the 910 body is larger than most lights and installing them on the calipers will be problematic with regard to getting them farther away from the forks and not looking too weird.

Plus I want them mounted there. Very Happy Laughing

Perhaps the best reason of all.

Hell I refuse to get a Russell seat because it looks like a Gorilla Turd. Confused

They have some newer cover designs that look much better than the graph paper, quilted velour crap. What was he thinking? The shape of the seat is unchanged, but several of the cover designs are quite palatable.

When I had Hella FF50s down by my calipers, I did notice shadows on rises occasionally. Higher is better.

For my fog/daytime lights that's not an issue and having them down low gives me a triangle.

There's a dude over at K-Bikes.com who has been futzing with fork mounting at the reflectors.

I've got a couple off 1 inch square hollow aluminum bars that I had powder-coated and was going to use onthe RS - until Johnny gave me the mirror mounts.

I've always heard that higher is better for driving lights (can see farther) and lower was better for fog lights (less glare off the mist).

The other advantage of fairing vs fork mounting: fairing-mounted lighting is more stable - doesn't bounce as much as the wheel/fork assembly.

But what do I know - I've got neither. I'd consider the mirror mount for driving lights. I've never ridden in enough fog to seriously feel the need for fog lights, although the added visibility would be a nice feature.
