My cruising speed is 75-80, but I give her hell often. Last week on the way to work, entering a 45mph zone, a Grand Prix passed a 90's Trans Am ahead of me. The Trans Am guy, apparently suffering from 'roid rage or something, immediately passes the Grand Am and hit his brakes, slowing them down to 35.
In retrospect, I should have played it smart and laid back in the interest of safety.
RIIIGHT
So I passed them both, and resumed my cruising speed when the speed limit went back up to 55.
The next thing I know, here comes the road raging Trans Am, closing fast in my mirrors.
Again, decision time... I downshift to 4th, soon I'm going top speed in 5th, pegged. At night... stupid, I know. How fast did I take her, I dunno... I only glanced at the tach every so often to make sure I didn't red-line her...
The bastard slowly receded in my mirrors... this went on for 8 miles... my top end speed was too much for his POS.
In the next town, slowing down to 30ish... something is seriously wrong... poor throttle response... she's shaking... am I running on 3 cylinders?
I spent the last week alternating between fearful procrastination and tinkering with the bike. Replaced the plugs... they looked like crap... better, but still not right... Dropped the exhaust and replaced the header gaskets to no avail... Is it an air leak? Bad piston? Fuel injector? I'm no mechanic, it's beyond my capability... She needs shop attention...
I just had the front m/c rebuilt... just replaced all the brake lines with braided stainless steel. Can't afford another $1500 bill... probably needs a rebuild anyway... it's the straw that broke the camel's back.
Tonight I cut my losses and traded her in, boys and girls.
Pics tomorrow of my new bike.

rydor...
i have heard many excuses from motobrick riders for downgrading to the r1200gs tow truck queen...
but your excuse is weal... o so weak...
i know its hard to turn down 0% financing and the end of the season price slash... but only the weakeast of the weal fall into that trap...
and you being a physically and mentally strong person with exceptional morals must have been brain washed on those wednesday evening rides...
so you better get grass roots tow truck drivers personal cell number... you are going to need it... until the motobrick militia get there to rescue you from the evil treason spewing dealers...
enjoy for now... a motobrick intervention is coming to your town very soon...

Ok, I was not going to go there, but I then realized I already was there.
Did you take the light bar off? If you did I'll buy it.
I think I know the answer as this sounds like it may have been a quick decsion to trade in. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Sounds to me like the samething happend to you that happened to me.
If I had known at the time that I was going to buy another LT, I would have just parted it out and not fixed it.
But that's why they call it hindsight.
Let's see that new ride. _________________ Ride safe.

There's no need for that. The Moronic has a built in rev limiter. I think it's at 8500 rpm. The earlier K bikes had it too. Before I parted out my K75RT after dumping it in a ditch, I took it out a few times and rode the living crap out of it, hitting the rev limiter often. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Thing is Sean, what out there can do what the motobrick does as well as it does, as comfortable as it does and more importantly as cheap as it does?
FJR?
ST1300?
GT?
RT?
>98 K1200RS?
VFR?
ZX-12?
FZ1?
V-Stromm?
Sprint ST?
Concours?
Lots of choices out there....but whatever you choose I think you will always be measuring it up with the motobrick.
At least thats what it seems like from all the people who swapped to a different bike on this forum. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Thanks for the well wishes all
The only thing I pulled off the RS was the Montana Russel I bought from J.O. (K11 garage sale will be forthcoming, you here will have first crack at what I have). The lightbar, PAIIs and Ohlins went with the bike, and helped me get a good trade value, all things considered. |

Trust me the GT does everything better than the RS, apart from price. Don't get me wrong, still love the K11 but comparison wise its like saying a VW beetle is as good as a current Merc.

Rydor,
Glad to see I am not the only Benedict Arnold in the bunch I love the Cosmic Blue color choice too!! One thing to watch out for is the battery. The early 08's had a batch of bad AGM batteries. They die without any warning, even if you use the top of the line Fronius charger and the battery reads full charge dont believe it. My GS needed a tow a couple of weeks ago, died at a gas station, battery was so dead the instrument lights would not even come on. If the dealership hasnt sold you a charger yet, pass on it unless its the crazy dollar Fronius unit with the LCD screen. The unit with the color dots on it that you have to the key on and off, does not work!!! The cheapest way is to use a battery tender that you connect the leads directly to the battery.
If you want you can send me a PM with your VIN number and I can look up and see it there are any outstanding recalls or PUMA issues for your particular bike.
Best of luck, _________________ Dom |

Dom - we don't consider you a traitor at all. There's a big difference between being a traitor and making a bad choice...
When your bike is a year old, you'll have to post with the number of times you've had it towed, repaired, recalled, etc - that will make me feel better about riding the old reliable K. _________________ Jim

Johnny O,
Night Black,1996 K1100RS sold new on 4/2/1996. Clean as a whistle, never had any recalls on the unit, nothing ever filed against it.
it already beats mine _________________ Dom |

My old bike is on the lift in pieces... they gave me a keepsake...
Heres what was found, as a result of a blown head gasket(?)
Exhaust valve... burnt to a crisp, and slightly bent.

OUCH Rydor.
The guy who does the major work on my RS typically has a brick on one of his two lifts when I go there for service. More times than not it is for a valve that looks a lot like what you posted.
