|
|
OK ! here goes LOL
Another buddy of mine has an 93 K1100LT that he rebuilt the rear master on it since it was leaking a little fluid after sitting a little. Well the master was bench bled & installed on the bike & no matter how he tries to bleed the system , it won`t pump up. He tried a mighty vac bleeding tool and some other things but it still has no petal. He read in the factory service manual that if brakes need to be bleed, bring it to the factory service center to have this done. Is there a reason they say that or is the a special tool or something that connects to the ABS computer to open some valves or something. |

I'd recommend removing the peg plate and holding it so that the rear of the master cylinder is pointing up when bleeding. Bleed it at the ABS modulator, then bleed it at the caliper. Probably wouldn't hurt to elevate the caliper as well to get air rising to the top. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

| Thanks & sent it to him to give it a try, as he thought that they needed to hook up to the computer to get a valve or something so the fluid will pass. I don`t know a thing about BMW`s (YET) But if i get that 94 K-LT i`m sure i`ll learn fast LOL |

In theory you should hook it up to the computer and have it done by a dealer. I do my bikes and there doesn't seem to be an issue.
There are others here also who bleed their own brakes. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

He said he`ll give it one more try before he goes to them & if he does have too go, he`ll get the braided lines first so it`ll be done for awhile. |

Even with the braided lines he should still replace the fluid every year anyway. _________________ Ride safe.

Con,
Have him fill the new line BEFORE he makes the connection at the master cylinder. He can use a syringe to get it as full as possible. Also get the caliper as full as possible. Next, remove the caliper and spread the pads as far as he can. This will force all the fluid in the caliper back to the master cylinder(along with all the air bubbles). Next, keep the reservoir full and bleed as he would any other brake system. The ABS unit holds about 2 tablespoons of fluid and there is no need to hook it to the BMW GT-1.
