Should I be worried about this, or just have the seal changed at my next service?

Is it dripping when you come back from a ride? Is your belly cowl all oily? It could be seeping out and you could wait for the next service. Keep an eye on the oil level too.

But first clean the bottom of the bike off real good with degreaser and brush, take it for a ride to make sure where it is coming from. It could be coming from a forward section and running back.

Don't panick yet. Just keep an eye on your oil level.

What type of oil do you use?

you can use just about anything half decent - either 10-40 or 20-50 in this area. I sure wouldn't put expensive synthetic in there. How often do you change your oil? You haven't put enough miles on the bike to do an oil change yet?

No, when I get back from Duluth it will be time for a service. Your mechanic in VA is on my list. When I talked to him he said the basic service is something I could do myself. I guess I could do the seal too.

It looks like a water/oil pump leaking from the drain hole in the front of the oil pan.Oil from there are then running back.

looks like a main seal failure/leaking..........

We all could be guessing but of course there is only a few things that could be leaking. Timing chain cover, crank shaft seal leaking out from the HES cover, oil sump seal, internal seals to the engine, etc. etc.

Clean it up real good then take a look. It could be a static leak (just sitting) or it could be while running. One never knows until it is clean.
