Picked up the new K1200GT late Friday afternoon. I've put just over 700k's on her and I am besotted. The power is awesome and I'm only running it in, the brakes are brilliant and the ergonomics suit me fine so far. I cannot believe how just good this bike is.

Yesterday I went out with my son and two of his mates. My boy took the K1100RS (first time he's been on it) and his mates were on a GSX 750 and a Hayabusa. We stopped for fuel about 120k's out and both rice burners were whinging about sore bums etc. At our next stop they both decided they had had enough, turned around and went home. My boy could not believe it, reckons it was the most relaxed ride he'd ever had on a bike. We continued on and ended up doing about 650k's. His mates would have totaled about 300. I'm think I might have a BMW convert on my hands.

Nice to hear someone new will get the benefit of the RS. I think it's the long legs and the solid handling that make it so nice to ride over long distances. Some complain about the stock seat, but to be honest I've always found it quite comfy..

Would you say that your 1200 still has that elusive BMW factor despite being completely conventional? Honest question as I was a bit bemused that they went for the same layout as everyone else. Glad you like it, anyway.

Oh she has the elusive BMW feel alright just multiplied by about five. Thats my opinion though and totaly biased.

Your making me think back to the early eighty's when the BMW community was horrified with the un BMW K's. I think there were comments like not a BMW, wouldn't last, wouldn't sell etc. Didn't do to bad though.

Cheers

Ever notice how people who complain about stock seats are typically out of shape?

Oh I know what you mean - it must have looked like a travesty! I suppose that's where the term "dark side" comes from. They're moving with the times I suppose.

I absolutely LOVE the GT, however there are a couple of problems.

1. Waaaaay too fast. I would get in sooo much trouble.
2. Heard it's hot.
3. Looks very expensive to crash.
4. Sticker shock. 20k? Be 10 years before I can afford one.
5. No Radio. Crying or Very sad
6. Hope the headlights good, doesn't look like it's too after market light friendly.

Shocked me thinks if he gets into trouble his right wrist is over developed Laughing

I had a k12rs and I just didn't get on with it still I'm sure when we can afford a GT there will be enough second hand bits floating around!!

This is definetly an issue

2. Heard it's hot.
It's got a/c compared to the K11

3. Looks very expensive to crash.
Yup

4. Sticker shock. 20k? Be 10 years before I can afford one.
And the rest. In Aus 34k. Yes I know its insanity just couldn't help it.

5. No Radio. Crying or Very sad
Didn't want a car

6. Hope the headlights good, doesn't look like it's too after market light friendly.

Well that was a bit of a disaster. I'll have another go now that I've read all the post about posting pics.

hi John - you should be able to edit your own posts - there's an edit button in the top right hand corner of the post. I think you can also delete your own posts.

In Picasaweb (now that you've figured out which part of the string you need to post the pix) there's a box just under the url you copied that allows you to choose from different sizes of pix - I think you chose thumbnail. The url is different for the different sizes of pix. You might want to go with at least 600 X 400.

I like a lot the K1200GT, specially in white dress...Very fancy.
But here in Brazil that little rocket has a price tag of U$53.000,00!!!!!!!!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked
I'll stay with my KLT for a while, for now.

Thanks for the help Jim. Finally got the pics right. Couldn't figure out the delete though.

Thats my K11 in some of the photos. She still looks pretty sweet after 14 years and in my opinion still holds her own next to the new bike.

Cheers

Hi John, I rode with a bran new one at last years BMW Safari, thought I might have seen you there, but that wasn't the case. What does the wife think of it, after riding on the back of the K1100 on the BMW Safari the year before?? Are you keen on going in a fortnight, starting north of Brisbane? Unfortunately I've done my back in and won't be going this year. Just clocked over 188,000 Kms on the LT the other day and I'm starting to itch for a change??? But I'll see what happens.

Great to see that your still on the K11 forum, (is there one for the 1200?)

Enjoy your new mount.

Cheers

Hi Lou,

The mrs loves it so far, she really likes the bigger handles and the back rest on the top box.

We are heading off on Monday up the Newell to Toowoomba then to Hervey Bay and really looking forward to the trip. My only concern is keeping the licence in one piece. The K12 is really difficult to keep at speed limits.

Sorry to hear about your back, hope your on the mend. Just a gentle warning, if you get on a new K you'll have a lot more than an itch. These things are unbelievable. I hope though they have the stamina of the K1100 though, they and the K100 must be the most bullet proof bikes ever built.

Cheers
