I am not sure what to make of this. I think motorcyclist are getting the short end? This is from the Hartford Courant in Connecticut. There goes the ride to work theory to save gas for some.

A poll attached asking if motorcyclist and scooters should be allowed showed 93% of respondents of over 1000 said yes. One rider on the MOA site said maybe the HD effect with loud pipes might be part of it.

Can you imagine the echo in a garage with a loud piped HD?

Anybody run in to this yet?

"Of the four parking garages operated by the city parking authority, none allows scooters to park there for safety reasons, said Executive Director Jim Kopency, though the MAT Garage on Church Street allows for some non-transferable "grandfather deals."

The authority is not alone. Of the 18 or so public and private garages in downtown Hartford, there are others that also restrict scooters and motorcycles."

Most parking garages and lots don't allow motorcycles - the signs are usually small - and I usually don't see the sign until I'm on the way out.

The local Costco has a flat outdoor lot - no motorcycles. Maybe this will change as more and more people start riding.

One of our large local hospitals (Swedish) has FREE parking for motorcycles in all four of their garages. And you park right by the manned toll booth so you can even leave your helmet on your bike if you're daring.

Here in California many parking lots have the best locations reserved for "motorcycles only" Smile

Here, where parking fees can run up to about $40.00 dollars a day! and rush hour grid lock have people leaning more and more towards scooter and motorcyces to commute. Here it is the acceptd practice to park your two wheels on the sidewalk or any other small open space avaliable, so long as it is out of the way.

Once in Amsterdam. Parked by the entrance to the American Consulate, on the sidewalk, there is a full time Dutch police presence there, asked if it was O.K. He asked if I would put it across the street (small) on the sidewalk and he would also keep an eye on it. Very Happy

In many places in the states (like Seattle) you'll get a ticket for parking on the sidewalk. I know, I got one a few years back even though I was only in the store for a few minutes.

However, when I spent some time in San Francisco with my K75S, where parking is a NIGHTMARE, I was able to get away with parking on the sidewalk in the Mission District.

i am begining to think this a revolt againts us riders.
1) why are toll roads charging for cycles it would take a 1000 cycles to duplicate the damage of one car.

2) i just go in a take a car spot if they want to tow go ahead i will you see you in court.. if the bike is registered with the state and is taxed by the state then it is a vehicle dose not matter how many wheels it has.
the parking garages do not want the scooters because they can evade the parking fee and cameras.. no plates to call in.

Yes. I had a good night in Vegas at the tables so the next day I rented a Heritage Softtail (with loud pipes - all the rental ocmpany's bikes had loud pipes) and took my GF for a ride in the desert. We had burgers at an In-n-Out. When I started the bike with no throttle, the pipes were still loud enough to set off a car alarm.

Later in the day I went into an underground parking lot for a mall - set off at least 10 car alarms. Kind of embarassing but nobody was around.
