I have just ordered a pair of these new multi compound tyres - supposed to be good in the wet and long lasting due to harder compound in the centre. Anyone else tried them yet?
Also, I have taken the plunge and ordered a bead breaker and balancer. Any advice on what not to do with Beemer wheels when using tyre levers?
Thanks in advance. _________________ 1980 CB900FA

Graeme - get some rim protectors, too. You'll be glad you did. _________________ Jim

I've got 2 tyre irons and 3 nylon rim protectors coming, also a valve removal tool and tyre lube. I'm buying a Bike-Tek bead breaker and a universal balancer - I don't know if you would have the same one over there. The bead breaker has a raised metal circular tube the wheel sits on with a central spindle, and an adjustable bar to pull down on to break the bead. I'm buying a single sided adapter for the balancer so the rear wheel will fit correctly for balancing. Local dealers are charging $30 - $40 to fit one tyre to a loose wheel.
I wasn't going to bother with a balancer but I got carried away on Ebay and decided to invest for the future. With the price of fuel over here (rough calculation we are at $2.40 for one litre of 95 octane) I'm even thinking of buying a smaller bike as a commuter. _________________ 1980 CB900FA

goto this link in youtube and look at related videos by this guy..
i learned much from this and other posting
i will say this
1) use PLEDGE to coat the tire and rim stay away from soap or oil soap. the stuff gets real slick
2) keep the tire elevated on the rim with wood blocks and keep the abs exicter ring face down it will save your knuckles..
3) get a c-clamp to hold the tire bead into the channel of the rim. and start drinking OJ from tropinica you will need about 3 bottles to get 6 rim protectors. do not forget the valve core removal tool..
4) as for balancing the tire ; get a static one off of Ebay.com and do not try and get it perfect; what you are looking for is a tire that will not accelrated during the process. what you want is a balance that will float very softly from your original balance point.
i have been told that you should check the balance of the rim before you install the tire. and remember that some of the tire companies will make a dot that indacates the heavy spot of the tire and that it should be mounted oppiste the valve stem..
5) also while the rim is off install a 90 degree valve stem that is metal less likely to leak. it will make it easer to check tire pressure.
hope this helps. _________________ fix the problem not the blame ; fix what is messed up ; NO one is to blame. |

| I just came back from a 125 mile ride in the Angeles Forest. A really nice mixture of canyon twisties and straight aways. My friend just put these new tires on his Honda ST1300 and absolutely loves them. He couldn't stop talking about how smooth and true the felt. I'm sure I'll hear more tomorrow too. _________________ Current Bikes
