I think faith should be in government about as much as I want to see antifreeze in my oil. NO!
But wait, religion based politics did such a good job in Northern Ireland and continues to do so (even without our invasion) in Iraq.
The minds that wrote our original Constitution/ Bill of Rights really knew what they were doing- our current $$$ driven government pales badly in comparison and further inclusion of faith based politics makes my skin crawl.
I'm probably going to offend some here, but "Christian conservatives, Southern Baptists, Mormons, Jews for Jesus, etc, etc" need to leave their individual cult beliefs outside when they enter a government building. ONE THING they can bring with them is the Golden Rule and just act like card carrying members of the human race - treating each other as they themselves would like to be treated. That does not require any religion.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!
OK, FD? Sorry to rant but you really hit a very sore spot.
Just my (outraged but humble) opinion.

Friends,
I dont want to hear about religion from politicians
I dont want to hear about "axis of evil" (should I file that one under religion or politics?)
I'd like to see them get us out of wars we dont need and cant afford
I dont care about their sex life either
I'd like to see them talk about affordable education (why did it cost me $50 in tuition for a BS degree in a "3rd world" country whereas it'll cost my kids $200K here)
I'd like to seem them explain why my allergy medication is $70 per bottle in the US and $2 per bottle overseas (the drug companies make a profit at both locations of sale)
I'd like to see them debate solutions to the energy crisis at lenght
I'd like to see them explain why our cars run on gasoline rather than natural gas (the largest reserve of natural gas is under USA, the largest reserve of petroleum, well we know where that is.....)
I'd like them to explain why we cant simply "flick the switch" for nuclear power on the grid......

If you read carefully you will find that our Constitution was based on the 10 commandments. Our country was founded by Christians, and as such they saw fit to make sure that some of the moral codes went into law.
Not saying its right, just saying.
Take the whole gay marriage thing. Really I could give a flying leap about what two people who love each other do. This country has too many problems with hate and intolerance to worry about what people who love each other do. Ask yourself this, if insurance didn't mind to carrying same sex partners on policies would this even be an issue? Bet not.
The "moral" outrage is all based on the flow of $$$, and if no $$$ was involved, no one would care.
Seperation of Church in State, I believe in it, but its impossible. For instance students in VA have to say the Pledge of Alligence every morning, or face possible suspension. (They may stand quietly and respectfully, but many do not know this)
I used to teach students who were recent immigrants to the country. They were not yet citizens, I found it offence when they said the Pledge, they have not business saying it until they are citizens. I mentioned this to one of the lawmakers when he visitied our school, and he just said that every one should say it, citizen or not. Oh yeah, as soon as they say "Under God" in the pledge, you have brought religion in. I had Hindi students who wanted to say "Under Gods" I told them to go for it. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

Not true. the framers of our constitution were not Christians, they were Unitarians, Puritans, etc...what they had in common was a fundamental respect and reverent awe (Fear) of God, the Creator. Chritianity implies following Christ Jesus the Savior. No mention of Jesus is found anywhere in our Constitution or Bill of Rights. It is this reverence that has made our nation great, and God has honored the framers faith and devotion and spared us much.
They knew the federal goverment was easily corrupted and the Tenth Amendment was to protect them from themselves, limit the power of the federal government to that which it is entitled to constitutionally, and let the states govern the people and make the laws. Unfortunately the federal governemnt is beyond repair, the corruption is systemic, no one man (or woman) can change it. The federal government is now all powerful, and unsavable.
Only one solution will work now, (You are not going to like it) and that is:
2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. _________________ Larry

Well this much is true.
Lobbyists and special interests run this country.
Friend sent me this poem, though it was appropriate for this thread.
| Quote: | Tax Poem
At first I thought this was funny...then I realized the awful truth of
it. Be sure to read all the way to the end!
Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table at which he's fed.
Tax the bald spot on his head
Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.
Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts
Anyway!
Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.
Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.
Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.
Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers,
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.
Put these words
upon his tomb,
' axes drove me to my doom...'
When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was
the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in
the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.
What in the hell happened? Can you spell 'politicians!'
And I still have to 'press 1' for English!?!?!?!? |

Yes, religion and politics can be bad.
Even worse is living in a country that would have you believe that the state is your God.
Our rights and freedoms were all given to us by religious men who believed that true evil was a government out of control (which ultimately always happens..you are witnessing it first hand)
Your rights and freedoms are slowly becoming nothing more than an illusion.
If you think christians, baptists, Jews for Jesus etc. are bad, try living in a country where worship of any kind has been banned. _________________ You only live once

Seems to me some two hundrend and thirty or so years ago the wsr for inddependence was fought over much of what we are living with now. The government is broken, only a complete overhaul stands any chance of restoration, and that will only come by revolution.
I can't believe I am thinking this way. How much more corruption and abuse are we going to take? _________________ Larry
