Top Ten Reasons Why Harley Riders Don't Wave Back:

10. Afraid it will invalidate warranty.

9. Leather and studs make it too heavy to raise arm.

8. Refuse to wave to anyone whose bike is already paid for.

7. Afraid to let go of handlebars because they might vibrate off.

6. Rushing wind would blow scabs off the new tattoos.

5. Angry because just took out second mortgage to pay luxury tax on new Harley.

4. Just discovered the fine print in owner's manual and realized H-D is partially owned by Honda.

3. Can't tell if other riders are waving or just reaching to cover their ears like everyone else.

2. Remembers the last time a Harley rider waved back, he impaled his hand on spiked helmet.

1. They're too tired from spending hours polishing all that chrome to lift their arms.

9. They're going too fast to have time enough to register the movement and respond.

6. They're too occupied with trying to get rid of their chicken strips.

5. They look way too cool with both hands on the bars or they don't want to unbalance themselves while standing on the tank.

4. Their skin tight-kevlar-ballistic-nylon-kangarooleather suits prevent any position other than fetal.

3. Raising an arm allows bugs into the armholes of their tank tops.

2. It's too hard to do one-handed stoppies.

1. They were too busy slipping their flip-flop back on.

Thanks Rydor, I can relate to that list. I went out for a 200mi cruise yesterday and noticed most all of the "younger sport bike riders" didn't, or wouldn't wave. Confused

I think I understand why now. Shocked

WTH?!?!?!

Waving?!?!?

I went out & about, waving ALMOST seems all the rage. BUT!!!! Is it a wave?

I get riders pointing two fingers, like the peace sign, but the fingers are together and they point off to the side, left hand & down at the road?

Are they warning me of a road hazard? Are they telling me to look at their side of the road? From the sport bike riders to the lean back cruisers, two fingers, left hand, off to the side & down.
I've seen it before, but is that REALLY a wave?

Where we live Harleys and Harley look-alikes are the overwhelming type of ride, most piloted by helmetless goobers. Some actually wave to me and I will return the greeting. But most don't since I ride a sport bike and don't look like Easy Rider (or what the Europeans call a human parachute).

I do the 2 finger wave - 'cuz I'm a member of the "I'm cool" club.

On the LT with the cuirse control on and my half helmet, sometimes I give them them "Johnny Vegas" look and point both hands at them like pistols. I fgure if they're a noob rider then this will make them go "WTF?"

The two finger wave for me is the natural way to wave when doing high speeds on my RS. If I stick up my whole hand, I almost get my arm blown off! One finger might be an invitation for a high speed chase.

Was going to start a new thread on this topic but found this recent thread instead so I decided to post here.

When I started riding back in the late 60s there were so few bikes on the road that when we passed there was a wave of acknowledgment from one bike to another; we were a very small minority of travelers. Now the wave has almost become tedium.

This last Saturday my wife and I went on a ride here in CO (about 225 miles) and by the time we got back home I'll bet I had waved at several hundred riders. Waved so much that I am beginning to think about giving the wave up altogether. Most people wave back but a lot are beginning to not give a wave, I have no clue as to why; inexperienced, Harley, don't give a shit, or maybe they're tired of waving too. A lot of the v-twin riders don't wave, hard for me to tell if they are Harley or not at speed but I can tell that they are some sort of v-t so perhaps some of the top 10 reasons apply.

How many people on this group wave and who don't and have you decided to stop because it is just so tedious given the increasing number of bikes on the road now?

Just kind of venting.

Also the peace sign wave pointed down to the road signifies keep your 2 wheels down and have a safe ride.

I could never understand the wave on a divided highway. Now I understand the the peace sign wave. I thought you had to be riding a V-twin to use it.
I wave to everyone. Bikes any make or model, scooters, mopeds. What I found interesting was when I rode in Ireland the riders sort of nod with a side ways movement with the head. I found it easier to do than wave.
