I don't know if anyone experienced this or not but the other day when I was riding home my speedo was reading 60 and I wanted to go 65 so I gave it some throttle and looked down and the speedo wasn't moving. I let off on the gas and it didn't move. I dopped down slower and it started to move?? I stopped and it was slow to catch up. I accelerated and it move slowly up and stopped prior to 60???

I speed up and slowed down several times and about 10 miles later it started reading normally again. I don't have any idea what would do this and if anyone has any input i would greatly appricated it so I could get it fixed. Interesting issue. Shocked

Thanks,
Michael

Just an idea . . .

Sometimes when the sun shines on the K gauges, and they get warm, the faceplates bow up, a little. This make the needles drag, lightly, on the faceplate. So, they get a little sluggish or stuck.

approx 50% of the time my speedometer shows full on hard...

approx 25% of the time my speedometer shows approx 3/4 limp...

approx 25% of the time my speedometer shows approx 1/2 limp...

i have learned to look at the rrrrrrrrrometer for speed and the fuelometer for fuel... everything else is futile...

crazy aint it...

A mate with a K100 had the pulse wheel in the bevel box come loose. That could cause your symptoms.
Also the speedo is electrically driven, if the Odometer works fine, then the fault MUST be in the speedo head.

One time I was stopped on a ride and the speedometer was climbing up to 20mph or slow, but not quickly and then going down a bit. Wavering up and down. The only way to make it stop was to shut off the bike.

I've never seen it happen since. But this occured within the last 6 months.

My speedo and tach is a fickle mistress as well.

I would guess it's off at least once every 2 weeks, but always returns to normalcy.

The early K's were notorious for their speedo problems.

Mine needs to be disconnected at the rear of the speedo and from the connection from the rear wheel and then reconnected periodically to keep working normally.

I think a little corrosion starts in there and needs to be disturbed to let the electrons flow again. The system works on millivolts, the output from the rear magnetic pickup, so it doesn't take much to interrupt the signal.

I need to do it again now. Many times I take off when cold and the speedo doesn't respond. There was a heating/warping issue on older bikes, too.

I had to replace my speedometer a while back, and this new one is too heavily damped in the needle movement. You can accelerate/decelerate quickly and sometimes the speedo will lag by 20 mph and catch up after you level off in speed.
