Just curious. I have, but then common sense and the desire to retain my license kicks in. You've gotta admit though that there's a lot to be said for owning the fastest production vehicle on the market.

My dad's 1960 VW Bug convertible that I learned to drive a stick on and used to drive in high school had 36hp - the 2008 Busa has 180!

Only once in a while do I have a, "holy shit that was too fast" moments on my K11.

If I had a Busa that would be all. the. time.

Where's the option for "nothxIlovemylife"

My oldest son has a busa. Took it for a ride one day and there it will certainly put the wind up you if you twist that right hand hard. But having a dodgy right knee meant after half an hour I was on my way back in a bit of pain. The seating position just bent the knee to much.

Gotta hand it to those land of the rising sun engineers though, you get a lot of bang to the buck with a busa and I'm told they have resticted jets to limit the HP.

Cheers

I've been riding for 34 years and if horsepower was the only thing that I wanted, I would have gotten a Kaw 750 2-stroke and probably be dead a long time ago! Then it was the Z-1, then things were taken over by the 4-strokes.

I went for a plodding 1970 R50/5 that was a real dog HP wise, but "Beemer" took me cross country in 2 months and 13K miles.

The R100/7 was the best match for reasonable performance and fuel economy yet could handle the unpaved Alcan Highway in 1978.

The "K" is the fastest MC I've ever owned and let me tell you I really don't need all that performance. Speed is adrenaline but I prefer to cruise on deserted State, National or just country roads. Count me as a "old" man.

PS I knew "Pop" Dreyer for about 15 yrs before he died. He raced and told me enough hair raising stories to confirm my belief that 'normal'
Motorsickling was hazardous enought without doing something stupid like doing 130 MPH !!

I've thought about one as a sidecar mule, there's a few around running RDS sidecars.

But now Hannigan is coming out with a rig for the ZX-14.

But oldest son starts college in a couple years so I'm sticking with the K for now. When he gets out there may be some used rigs for sale as the next big thing comes out.

I'll have to admit the lure is strong. From all accounts it's an incredible machine. Fast? Sure. But also smooth and good handling. A few changes could make it into an enjoyable sport tourer. I wouldn't mind getting a test ride.

when i was waiting for the idaho bmw dealer to redo the fork seals on the bug eye brick... the seal he had just done while having the bug eye brick for 3 weeks... a guy rode in on a new busa...

had tall windshield... touring seat... touring bars... hard bags and all kinds of ch1t all over it...

the guy said he bought it at this multi line shop and had the touring package put on it... it actually looked very comfortable... he said it was an all day 1 up or 2 up touring machine...

im thinking he said he had 14k into it... i got more than that into the bug eye brick...

I've always wanted a busa.Every year I ride in an annual 1000 miles in 24 hours event here in the Denver area for the last 3 years the guy finishing the ride the quickest has been on a Busa and usaully finishes in around 16 hours.I have ridden a ZX14 and can tell you it's the only bike that I was afraid to find out the top speed on it was pulling hard enough that it was moving me (260lbs)back off the seat so I had to clamp the tank with my knees. When you think about the fact that they can put an extra 50 mph on top of our K11's that is pretty darn impressive. Very Happy

I went for a ride day with a few mates last year. One on a Busa. We followed him out of town and down this old back road that he knows well.

Off he went like a rocket, leaning right - past a car and a small truck, leaning left back into the lane (Australia), then opening it up even more, 160 - 180 - 190.... and there out of the blue..... all of a sudden like was a round about that was put in last week. Well.....after some frantic breaking he hit the concrete 6 inch ledge straight on (after deciding he would not be able to pull the baby around the beast). Launched it about 2 metres into the air and landed on the outside of the far side of the roundabout nose first and at about 25 degrees bow down angle.

A shower of dust Busa bits exploded into the air. The end for end tumbling Busa passed the guy in front of him (who had just successfully negotiated said round about normally) and speard into the road some 30-40 metres further on. My friend was seen doing a similar action just of the road edge before coming to a rest 25 Metres from the roundabout.

I was following him at a safe distance and saw it all unfold... all I could say was F#%K.....F@#K......F#@K.... over and over.

The good news is he came out of it with flying colours, he broke his left wrist and a couple of ribs and a shit load of pride. The bad news was that he needs a new helmet and about 10 Grand (AUS $) to fix the beast that was. This includes a Turbo....why.....I dont know, but he feels its needed to give the Busa that 'bit extra oomph'.......

The Busa is next to complete now (minus the Turbo at the moment for registration purposes).

The lesson.......

Fast is................awsome.....

But it takes a hell of a lot longer to stop and recognise problems.

Glad your mate is ok.

Bikes can be replaced, people no.
