Hi there,

I have a 1997 K1100RS and I am in the process of ordering some SS Brake Lines. The suppliers are advising me that I require 2 lines for the rear brake and yet I only have 1. The flex hose on my rear brake is between the caliper and an in-line connection to a rigid line on a bracket attached to the frame. This rigid line then goes to the ABS unit and a further rigid line then goes from the ABS unit to the master cylinder.

On the front brakes I have the following:

1) Flex line from master cylinder to ABS
2) Flex line from LH caliper to splitter under fender/mudguard
3) Flex line from RH caliper to splitter under fender/mudguard
4) Flex line from splitter to rigid hose which then leads to ABS unit

Questions:

Does the above concur with your own experiences?

If you have 2 flex lines on the rear of a late ABS 2 bike where are these lines?

Does anyone have the specs (hose length and connector types) for this bike.

Failing this I will need to remove the hoses and have new ones made to match.

Tony - when I got SS lines for the K, the company I ordered from didn't have a kit for the LT. I had to send them all my brake lines so they could make a kit. Who are you ordering from?

They are amazingly responsive and helpful but the feedback from the HEL factory in the UK who these guys deal with is that there is little that is standard on a BMW bike - at east in terms of brake line bits. Given the number of people selling kits for late model RS with 2 flex hoses on the rear brake when mine definitely has one - I am beginning to understand.

Hi Tony,

I used Motobins for a complete set front and back. They fitted perfectly - I cannot fault them. And there is only one for the rear brake on my ABSII. Going from memory they were 17 quid each.

Tony - I didn't go out to look at the bike yet, but if memory serves me (which it may not), I think the LT has two lines to the rear. I think the bikes are fairly standard until there's a change. I know the brake lines are different on ABS I and ABS II bikes - at least that's the problem I ran into when I got SS lines for the LT.

Nope, ABS II bikes have only one rear flexi pipe.

Hard pipe from m/cyl (mounted on inside of footpeg plate) to abs unit.
Hard pipe from abs unit to union, 2/3 way along the swingarm.

Flexi from union to caliper.

ABS I bikes have a flexi from the m/cyl to caliper.
Flexi from abs unit to caliper.

The current Goodridge catalogue lists two rear hoses. I am an authorised Goodridge agent, and I have asked my distributor to check with Goodridge UK about producing a hose kit for the ABS II K11LT.

Goodridge UK state that their kit for the K1100 RS reflects the ABS II setup. BW1031-1R is the correct part.

Why they can't be bothered to update their catalogue to reflect the post-93 LT ABS II models is beyond me - tey have had 14 years to do it Mad
