I almost hate to say it, but with some connections, mine was free.
It will cost some for the conversion, though.

From the IBMWR.org site. Now the fun begins. _________________ Dave Norris KOG 248

I'm curious. Could someone share what the deal is about 1200c final drive conversion?
Do you put this on a K1100?
I have no idea what it's all about and why. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

Gwen - it's on K11 here somewhere. IIRC, the 12RC rear has a different final drive ratio and lets you install a wider tire. Found this from Gary, but I think he just changed the gears: "By the way, I changed the Final Drive Gears with R1200C Gears, they fit straight in no modifying or machining and it took 500rpm's off 5th gear at 100kmh... just perrrfect!"

Yes, new bearings, sealings and a lot of shimming.
Tooth backlash must be adjusted, contact pattern and preload for the wheel bearing must be adjusted. _________________ 93 K1100RS TIC-8PSI hlins rear,WP springs front, 2,62 final drive, K12RS 5" rear wheel

Just about the only thing I take to the shop. I don't have any special tools that you need to disassemble and reassemble the rear end.
Also, the purpose doesn't have anything to do with tire size. It is a ratio change, equivalent to approximately 11%. Fewer rpm all the time. I have always felt that these bikes were geared from the factory for towing trailers.

I suppose you are talking about the transmission on the K12RS/GT.
Yes, it will bolt on, but you'd be better off buying a K12.
The bellhousing is different, the frame is different, the bike is different.
With enough money and engineering you can adapt anything to practically anything. Mounting a complete K12 running gear wouldn't bolt up either.
A K12 ENGINE will bolt up with minor changes.
